OK, I have heard the opinions of people I respect in the community that there are between 2000 and 3000 Panteras surviving world wide. I am begining to question that and here is why. I thought for a long time I was the only Pantera in Johnson City, Tennessee. Over the last ten years or so I have found that it just isn't true. First there was a guy I meet at a car show who loved my car so much he went out and found a rusted out hulk, restored it and had it for about five years and then sold it. Again, I found a guy here localy who has owned Panteras for over 30 years now and in fact is sort of an urban legend here in the hills with his exploits pitting himself against local law enforcement throuout the region. His legend is still talked about in rapt whispers even though he has not continued in this fashion for over twenty of those years. He has made the Pantera rank amongst the ghost stories in prominance in the area. Just last week my son-in-law ran across yet another Pantera ensconsed in a local garage along with other legendary Ford Muscle and exotica, such as 69 428 Drag-pack Mustang, 2005 Ford GT etc. But there it was, a 1971, red example. Sitting there in that multi-car treasury.
Therefore, given this is but one isolated and rather unpopulated environment, and further extrapolating that this is in no way unique, it is my contention, that LESS that one thousand Panteras are actualy dead. I say that OVER HALF are just missing in action and that probably more than FOUR-THOUSAND Panteras are alive today!!!!!!
I know this is a controversy ranking right up there with cloning dinosaurs and life on other planets, but by gum, I belive from my experience, that they do in deed, LIVE AMONGST US!!!
Disscuss amou Eekerngst yourselves.

Nobody has any real statistics. There were approximately 7160 Panteras made. I like to divide that number by three. 2386 Panteras belong to people who are club members, active on the internet, etc. 2386 Panteras have been lost through auto accidents, improper care, etc. And 2386 Panteras belong to people who are not members of clubs, who are not active on the internet, who have them stored in hangers, barns, garages or private collections. My numbers are not accurate, they weren't arrived at scientifically, but they give my mind an idea of the possible magnitude of the cars in each situation. Its wonderful to think there are 2300 Pantera belonging to people who are actively involved in our global community. Its sad to think 2300 Panteras have been lost. But its challenging to think there are 2300 Panteras out there to be discovered.

Nope, we're not the most common ...
Ferrari 308 ~12,000 made
Ferrari 328 ~7,400 made
Ferrari 348 ~9,000 made
Ferrari Testarosa ~10,000 made

While Lamborghini only made ~2,900 Diablos, they've surpassed 10,000 Gallardos (that's why you'll even see them in W*lm*rt parking lots).

Depending on what you consider exotic...

Lotus Esprit ~10,600
Lotus Europa ~9,300

Acura NSX ~19K

Deloreans, ~9,000 made.

The Audi R8 is already pushing 10K units built.

Who knows how many 911s have been built.

Consider that Ford has had periods where they've produced as many Mustangs in a week as DeTomaso built Panteras in 20+ years ... there have been over 8M Mustangs built since '64 - that means every month, for the last 46 years, Ford has made twice as many Mustangs as the entire run of Panteras - I find the numbers humbling.
Corvette over the last 57 years is pegged at 1.4M+

Yet these guys with Mustangs (or Shelbys, or Camaro, or Mopar) gets out there with a report that says his car is one of one - manual transmission, 427 car, radio delete, no AC, produced in tangerine yellow........

HAHA
I drive my Pantera at least once a day, usually a few times. I live in a fairly small town (although growing) about an hour N of Tampa. There are six Pantera's in this town w/in 15 or 20 miles of my house.... My car and two others (once each for them) are the only ones I have ever seen on the road... One of them sold online last month...
