EBAY USED IGNITION SWITCH - $622

Gee, and I thought that the offers that I got for my spare were ridiculous! As they say, supply and demand and these are hard to come by. Maybe I should take mine out to sell and use a push button start since the car is never left unattended!

Actually, I surprized no one has come with a suitable replacement that would cost far less.
There's got to be other ignition switches that would work just as well. Even if it had to be mounted somewhere else.

Is it possible Larry ?

My switch went bad about a year ago. Wow the $$$ even for a used one. I removed my steering column and took it to the locksmith to have it switched out for the one I bought from a Mercury Capri used parts source. It was around $200 I think and I didn't dare tell him it wasn't going in a Capri. I did that once and the guy hung up on me! OK I am going to state the obvious since no one else has yet, the swtich and steering column in your Pantera are the same as a Capri. If you can find one in a junk yard, buy it!

BUT...

Only the Mark I, and only the early Mark I to boot!!

Not an easy piece to find - I have two spares, though.

Oh yea. Folks have done it. I know the newer GM Malibu came with a dash mounted switch/ignition piece, and others no doubt could supply a substitute.

Just wires.

I few years back, I talked to a gentlemam who had his car on Fremont Street. He had installed a modified Pontiac something tilt wheel! It look great!

Mitch/Larry, when i call an auto wrecking yard for a ignition switch for my 74 exactly what make, model and year Mercury Capri would i ask for? Are the ignition switches the same for 71 thru 74? Is there a web site for Capri parts? I want a spare. Thanks Chuck

Pre facelift Mark I. Have not found it was used on any other Ford products but this Capri model.

Contact Team Blitz for used Capri parts. Their website is www.teamblitz.com. Located in Ohio.

While searching a tilt column I discovered that the Honda Civic column appears very similar in size and layout.
As far as length, etc, only a direct side by side comparison could answer that.
Of course the spline would be a Honda size and pattern.
It looks like it has definate possiblities and they are fairly cheap.
I think it was an 89-90 vintage.

$622 WOW indeed, goes back to a recent post about a parted out Pantera is worth more than a good driver.

Ironically, someone else just paid 10GBP for one on eBay UK too.... way to go Larry buying up all them Euro switches and GT4 lights, no wonder you started this post, there's 'Gold in them there scrapyards' I tell ya!
