Awhile bac someone made a roll bar that mounted in the engine compartment.
It also had tubes which ran through the rockers and bolted through the wheelwells in the front.
I asked most of the vendors I know and they all say they don't know who made it.

I think it is a great idea. Does anyone here know anything about it?

I bought the chassis stiffening kit from Hall and I am 99%positive the main hoop was supposed to go in the engine compartment. It came with 2x4 box tubing to go in the frame rails and a number of other pieces to go in various other places. I got most of my other roll cage stuff from Chris Allstons Chassisworks. They send you a form to fill out and send you all of the pre bent tubing. All you have to do is trim it to fit.

As usual I am confused. Please don't interpret this as being argumentatinve.

First Hall says they don't have what I described and don't recall ever having it.

They didn't mention a chassis stiffening kit with a hoop. I presume that you mean roll bar?

Also if you are certain that the roll bar is intended to go in the engine compartment, it sounds like 1) there is no roll bar with the kit or 2)you didn't mount the roll bar, assuming that is the hoop, in the engine compartment?

Can you please explain? Sorry I'm so stupid.

Hall usually includes some type of installation instructions with the kits. Sometimes they are cartoons drawn on the back of a McDonalds bag but still instructions.

Do you have any such "illustrations" that you can share?

Thanks in advance.
Doug,
Not a problem. The main hoop Iwas referring to was indeed the roll bar. The kit came with a roll bar but I mounted the roll bar in the drivers compartment because I have a full cage and wanted to mount a seat belt bar to it as well as my roof bars and possibly door bars later. The kit came with ABSOLUTELY NO INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SO EVER as is the case with everything I have ever ordered from Hall. The chassis stiffening kit I am referring to is not the one the advertise now with all of the strut tower braces. This one used to be pictured in their catalog. The picture showed it fully assembled out of the car so one could get an idea of what was included. The bars that went in the rocker panels had lighhtening holes drilled from front to rear however mine came with no holes. I think this was the system Gary used in Purple Passion to aid with stiffening when they removed the roof. I will see if I can find my old,old catalog and get a picture for you. I am fairly certain though that I chucked it a while ago in a fit of anger.

Blaine, I know the one you are talking about. I have that Hall catalog.
I think I spoke to Terra (Gary's Granddaughter) and she said they didn't carry it anymore.
Since Gary is mostly retired virtally everything has not been replensished to stock.

I had Halls three point bar which I got pissed at one day and sold to LPB. That bar actually looks like it could be mounted on the other side of the bulkhead, aka, the engine conpartment.

I seemed to remember something about having to alter the gas tank (beat it with a hammer) to make the bar fit back there.

For me the czbin is too tight already. That's why the bar had to go. I think if I ever get a bar again (a hoop)I'll try to fit it back there.

Thanks.
I bought Higgs' car about 6 years ago. It still retains that engine-bay roll bar. Whoever did it, did a good job. When I bought the car, there were no cracks, and I thought it would help prevent cracking. And it may have helped, but it has not kept it from happening. Right behind the driver's side gill there are some little cracks in the paint. None on the passenger side. My guess at this, is that with me usually being the only one in the car, somehow with the weight more on one side, it has slowly developed cracks over time. Again, a total guess, but I don't understand why it is only on that one side. And it's the only place that I've noticed they've appeared. Other than that, the paint has held up very well.

If anyone wants more pictures of the setup, let me know and I'll take some and post.
