Yesterday was a productive day and I finally accomplished the job of pulling the engine.

The pull went fairly well, except my cheapo cherry picker was not up to the task. When I began lifting, I heard a bad sound and soon discovered that the square tube was breaking apart where the boom exits the tube. Luckily, I was able to borrow a heavy duty unit and safely complete the job. I had my hoist set at the 1/2 ton mark, and I didn't think the engine/ ZF combo weighed that much.

First step will be to send the ZF out for an expert inspection and safety wiring. I love the look of Johnny Woods' painted ZF, but don't know if anyone offers that service and will probably end up with a polished ZF.

I have decided to park the original engine in the garage and go with a 408 stroker Cleveland crate engine. You only live once, right? Only problem is that I need to sell some stuff to help raise the funds. Anyone interested in a '68 SS396 Chevelle?

I also appreciate the good info being offered in the 'what should you do in the engine bay when the engine is removed" thread.

Dennis,

Nice work, man. Cool

I would be interested in more pix as you make progress over the coming months. If you have pix and details of your task in pulling the power plant, that would be awesome!

As much as I enjoy driving my cat, I am really looking forward to the engine bay mods I have planned for the winter.

Thanks in advance,
EA
EA,

The reason for my pull was due to a failure of the engine and now I'm treating that as an opportunity to take my car to the next level. Every year I look at the awesome engine bays of the Panteras at the Pocono CSD show, as well as the cars of the members of the club I belong to (Jersey Panteras) and I too am really looking forward to upgrading the looks and performance of my car.

I took lots of pictures of the engine bay before the pull to document how it will go back together, but unfortunately I didn't take any pictues of the removal process.

I would be happy to detail for you the steps I took, if interested send me a PM. Good luck with your project.

Ah, Pure pornography. Coz is going to start work on my recently acquired Pantera. I am thinking that this is teh Kirk of the bulkhead reduction kit? What was done to your ZF? Media-blasted then painted?
