engine not fitting?

Installed the engine and trans on Wednesday, well nearly, Have a problem the right side fits perfectly, while the right side needs to go back 1/2 an inch. the top donut is not sitting mount correctly and we have already have all the spacers to the front of the trans mounts. is there any play in all the mounting brackets or has my car shrunk/
and yes engine mounts installed with holes to the front!

Loosen the mounts on both sides I'm sure there us play to make up 1/8 here and there.

The first time I reinstalled my motor/trans assembly I had the upper mounts (the side that mounts to the engine block) reversed with similar results. On mine both sides were off.

Reading this makes me uneasy, because I had to remake the plate on witch the motormounts are bolted. Checking the measurments of the holes, i found that there was 1 centimeter difference between left and right. so now the holes are both indentical i hope the engine will fit

are you talking about rebuilding the plate on the chassis or modifying the engine brackets?

It's George's hammer. I use a 5 foot pry bar.

Hammers are for persuading uncooperative mechanical parts to fit where we want them to fit ... 5 foot prybars are for getting me off bar stools.

I think they put the iron cover on the back of the ZF so you can safely hit it with the sledge to make the assembly fit?
