I had the original steering wheel reconditioned and am trying to put on the car. When I removed the 22 mm bolt on the aftermarket wheel and yanked it off, a spring came off as well behind the wheel.

I cannot for the life of me figure out where the spring is supposed to go. any help would be appreciated.

Appreciate the input and saw the same diagram on the parts manual but it dosent add up. I asked my father the same about the aftermarket Lecarra wheel and he didnt remember it coming with another spring…but he could be wrong.

To make things more confusing pulling out the canceller shows a tooth/key that fits into a slot in the part directly  behing the canceller so no way the spring fits between. Please see pics.

connecting the factory wheel right to the canceller is a flush fit with the covers. But this means i need to leave the spring and spacer out….

Not sure honestly, I had to yank the wheel so hard that when it released it flew at me so it very well could have been.

Been quite a frustrating day. I cannot get the stock steering wheel on even without the spring or that spacer…..

Put the steering wheel on with the nut and see if you can pull on it…

I don’t have my column here otherwise I would measure it and see how much it should stick out

super appreciative of this group and the always helpful people and advice!

problem solved. First issue was my shaft had dropped. pulling it up gave me another 3” or so. Then I could tell that my father had put things back incorrectly. I followed the order above with the shaft all the way out and had plenty of room to get the the factory GTS wheel back on.

Thanks all
