Preparing to swap my engine out for a built up one..

Knowing the wealth of knowledge out there can I get info of a step by step process to insure I don't over look anything from people who have traveled this route before me? Email me at dclark@pssd.com if you can. This is merely one area I don't want to make a stupid mistake or perhaps some people have tips on how to make it easier. Knowing as much as I can ahead of time will make it go as clean as possible.

Thanks for your help!

Get a hold of a Pantera shop manual and follow the step by step procedures. I made a photocopy of those pages and checked each one as I completed it. Following those instructions I had no problem getting the motor and trainy out. A couple of hints:

1. the balance point for attaching the chains is at the back of the heads (over the oil sender unit)

2. remove the distributor cap so it doesn't break the back window. (it comes very close)

3. have a strap handy and when the motor is free, have your helpers lift the back of the trainy up and strap it up to the engine lift so that it clears the back panel.

4. don't use a plate on the manifold to attach the the lift out especially if you have an aluminum manifold. The weight of the motor and trans could cause the studs to pull out with catastrophic results to your car and or helpers. Also, with the crane that far forward it is almost impossible to clear the roofline. I ran into this problem and it was very, very close.

Good luck and GO GATORS (i assume from your email address)
