Since we seem to have an abundant supply of just sitting FEMA trailers just waiting to be auctioned off, Would not the humane thing to do would be to ship them to where they would be most needed? Heck, they are better than what they were living in BEFORE the quake! Just a thought. Wouldn't know where to email a thought to our thoughtless politicians.

my 2 cents

Where were they left over from New Orleans ? Where they never even used them for our own Citizens in tragedy. Maybe we should set a few up in every local park in the USA for the people who are losing there homes. God bless the Haitian people and hope they over come this tragedy .. but dont you think we should take care of our own first.

Normally, I am a STRONG advocate for spending our hard earned money in our own borders first. But for SOME reason, our govt has decided to just get rid of those trailers. There are a lot of people even after Katrina that could use them, but noooo Obama just wants to get rid of them and stop paying the storage rent. I was just thinking of filling each with tents and supplies that we are sending anyway to make the dollars we are already spending stretch as far as possible.

Hell, Obama was sure quick to COMMIT $100,000,000.00 (ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS) that we sure don't have to the relief effort! And what did CHINA offer? 2 friggen million. Give me a break.

Have you seen the images of parents carrying the bodies of their dead children? Bodies stacked in the streets? People searching for fresh water to drink? Tearing at the rubble of collapsed buildings with their bare hands searching for survivors? The poorest country in the western hemisphere reduced to actually having LESS than nothing? You're suggesting the richest country in the world shouldn't step up?

By the way, it was Bushes lame response to Katrina that bought those contaminated trailers that people refused to live in, NOT Obama. It's just another legacy he got stuck with. Give ME a break.

I;m suggesting the richest country in the world stops spending all of our tax dollars on wars and start helping our own and Relief efforts.

Of course a tragedy like this in Haiti we should help ...but have you seen the images of people in this country being escorted out of their homes by the Sheriff when the Bank forcloses .. probably not .. have you seen families sleeping in Storage Places because the lost their homes ... probably not ... Did you see the guy today jumped off the TZ Bridge because 2 weeks ago he lost his job he had for 25 years ... problably not ... did you see the Factory in Port Jervis NY shut down today and 500 people are out of work.

And by the way those trailer were contaminated .. so now they are sending to the Hatians ... to do what make matters worse.

This is not politics this is common sence. This is human nature .. when you see your own struggling, starving and loosing everything you feel the need to help ... bailing out GM and the Banks .. let them go out of business and loose their homes like the rest ... no they take bonuses ... LOL

I respectfully ask that you go back and read the previous posts and even the ACTUAL background history on those trailers before we get off on a different tangent. I just commented that it might be a good idea to help. As for contamination issues, some, not all have developed mold contamination from sitting so long closed up. Also there have been quite a few families that have petitioned for one and been turned down and some refusing to move out of the ones they are living in.

ALL AGREE that the FEMA AND STATE response was more than lacking and has hopefully been corrected since then.

The U.S. is, as we always have, stepped up to the plate to help those in need, even when we have real need at home. The loss in Haiti has touched a lot of people in S.E Florida, both my wife and I have co workers that have lost family or cannot find out about them yet.

PLEASE, no more of the 'legacy he got stuck with' crap. Every pres since Washington was left with something or another. One very interesting thing to see here are the political signs for the canidates for the next election... NONE of the Democratic signs are identifying the runners as Democrats! And this in a largely Democratic state. I hate to admit it but I will most likely switch parties, what is happening in Washington is NOT the change I voted for, guess I was just nieve. However, I am man enough to admit I was wrong.

Enough politics for me, sorry about the post.

The government is a large thing that carries a lot of momentum. It's hard to get it to change direction and it will be a while before we'll see the scenery change. What we need is for everyone to at least pull long and hard in more or less the same direction.

My frustration is our American expectation of instant gratification. There is no short cut. In the the course of US history, a year is less than the wink of an eye and four years doesn't even represent a full two percent. For now I'm going to keep my eye on the ball and support the program. I'll finalize and express my judgement of the new guy in November 2012 after I see results over a longer term.

And, true, every president was left with baggage when he came into office, for example one recent president actually inherited a budget surplus.

I'm not picking at any party, I'm looking at men and where their ideas and actions took us. One in particular just disappointed the heck out of me.

ps; The issue with trailers has to do with formaldehyde in the insulation. There are still pending lawsuits. Too bad, but those things need to get recycled asap and cut the losses.

I'm done too. I promise, no more rants until 2012.

Larry
Your getting instant gratification in Iraq, Afganastan and Syria. 300 billion and they are sending making weapons, bombs and sending troops ? They bailed out the banks ... how many billion. I beg to differ the path we are on now we are seeing results ... definately not the results YOU WANT. You will see the goverment is putting our Industry and Business out of business. In 2012 ..its going to be a sad sight.

Hell we didnt even get a discount on Fuel with our 300 billion in Iraq. LOL

Not Politics ... ? Reality

You are absolutley correct. NAFTA, and all the other free trade treaties are killing the bussinesses in this country. Which were brought on by greedy governments and BUSSINESSES. With all the unemployment in this country its amazing anyone is spending money. Your own state is at 8.6 percent, my state Michigan is the nations leader in unemployment at 14.7 percent.
When you dont have people working earning good wages how does anyone expect this country to have a consumer based economy???
Ross Perot had it right the great sucking sound is still very loud.
