Well, not really, I drove it home from Holland, and it has been out drivin on ice for the registration. But this was the first real "relaxed" drive in the Pantera. Registered, insurance in place, decent dry weather, fully dried roads and I had a day off.

It's a different beast compared to last year. With the new mufflers the sonic boom is gone and the general noise level is lower, still way above Danish average though. And the new tires help a lot, now it moves forward instead of just spinning its wheels. So it feels less scary than last year, I almost feel in control. It's still very very fast. When I floor it in 2nd gear, something that I couldn't get away with last year, it jumps forward and the surroundings seem to fade to a blur like when Starship Enterprise goes into warp speed.

I drove by a guy that has a 67 Mustang that I had promised a ride, and gave him a short ride, he had never been in a Pantera before. I floored it in 2nd gear. "Wwwwooooooooooowwwww" was his reaction, and when doing a 90 degree left turn, he said it runs like a go-cart. I think he wants one now...

I had planned to stop and take some good pictures, but driving was so much fun that I forgot. I might also have been considerably above the speed limit 4-5 times, hope I can keep my license despite this car.

So how much HP is good in a Pantera? I have close to 600HP and I would not want 100HP more, nor would I like to lose 100HP. So for me 600HP is perfect...

I would think 6oo should do it. What kind of parts do you use to make that kind of power. I can only estimate my power. I just bought a G Force accerameter that I need to hook up. It takes your car weight, and uses G forces under acc, and braking to estimate true HP is says it is very accurate....But.... All I need is a cig lighter.. I'll get right on that.. Bill 1362
Congrats Michael!

Soon you will be the envy of all your friends and neighbors. But it will be the petrol station owners who will REALLY love you now that you have TWO (or more?) gas-sucking V8s! I'm sure it still puts more smiles on your face per litre than anything else could.

I have been scaring the crap out of myself, cops neighbors, drivers with cell phones. I made a couple of passes with the HP accelerometer. I hit 315 hp. I had a bad start and spun. Then I got this 335 hp. Still a bad start, spinin'and all over the 6800 limiter. I belive I could get it at least another 50 if I drove it right. I put the weight of the car at 3020. I thought I had a 500 hp motor.?

Mikael, I belive it is there too. The manual says there are a lot of variables. Tire spin, getting a start from dead still. I,m not finished testing yet, It also says do 5 runs and throw away the 2 bad one ,and average the 3 best. Maybe I should heat the tires. I have my old worn out ones on the car now. I have new Sport Pilots, waiting, but I kinda hate to fry em... WWWAAAAAAA Bill 1362
Those accelerometers are not very accurate, more of a novelty. There are even more variables to contend with like wheelspin related to driving ability etc. Some people have better luck with 1/4 mile calculations at which point you might get a better estimate of your horsepower with your trap speed. You say 500hp, but I'm guessing that was not from a chassis dyno but an engine dyno. There is considerable drivetrain loss 15-20% between an engine dyno and a chassis dyno and even between chassis dyno's there are discrepancies including weather conditions. On top of that dyno operators can fudge the numbers a dyno outputs if they understand them well enough. Big dyno numbers sell right? Then add in the fact that there are load and inertia based chassis dyno's and consumers scratch their heads. Dyno's are a good tuning tool for back to back pulls, but not for comparing cars to each other. Too many factors in a race including gear ratio, suspension, tires, driver. Chassis dyno's have a difficult time calculating torque when a loose race torque converter is used with an automatic. The reality is you can't bench race with dyno's nor can you compare the results from one dyno with another.
