I just called about it. And no....I'm not going to buy it. I already have one that needs to be finished. I was just curious if the ZF was with it and of course it's not. It's not a '74 because the VIN # is THPNM004058. That puts it closer to a '72. The seller is sending me pictures. I'll post them once he sends them in case anyone else is interested in knowing more about this beast.
I bought my car from this seller.
They did send me many many pictures, when I sent them a letter stating the condition of the car when I received it, they refunded a thousand dollars, Its still not on the road and I have much more to do to get it roadworthy.

I was not "in the Pantera loop" and paid around $16000 more than it was actually worth, then the costs of shipping to England, they even charged me over $200 to drive it to the port of embarkation! which wasn't so far away..

It will I hope be a grand motor car when I have made some improvements, but I would stress to folk who are looking for a De Tomaso to do much homework and join the clubs for sound advice.

I have been very fortunate to have help from Mike Drew, who's advice and assistance has been invaluable, top man.

I would agree, but it seems like often times those "piles of rust" sell at full price or near to it.....maybe not this one. It is as bad as I have ever seen
I think much of it is supply and demand. Problem is there are good cars available for $50K. Paying $8k for a rust bucket will cost more in the long run. I think many uninformed people think they can repair / reconstruct this at home saving $$. The other theory I have is the import / export market. It is much cheaper to import a hunk of junk worth $ and pay duties on $ than a decent $50k car. Just a theory.
In the long run anything can be saved... the question is what is it worth to you?
I keep telling my wife the Pantera in the garage is going up in price, redone, complete, running/ driver, new paint, best guess worth $45-50 large (ps not for sale).
She says it is worth what someone will pay.

Short stort when I moved after my fathers death 2006(my mom passed in 1999) my sister and brother were also moving, we had a big tag sale, I became so frustrated that the items that I paid big dollars for, I priced at 5 cents on the dollar did not sell.
The people showed up "lookelou's for Calders and Rembrants" after 3 hours I held up a $100 bill and called their attention to it, I stated what am I bid for the $100 bill ... after 2 min nobody said a word (idiots)! I threw them out and bought my sister things, gave my brother a c note and bought his stuff, and called 1800 got junk. So I guess my wife is right.
So in not so short... can it be saved yes... is it worth $8000 not a chance, $800 maybe. I think I will pass...!

Well, maybe a slightly straighter body, but still a horribly rusted car that will take many (tens of?) hundreds of hours to reconstruct. I can't imagine having so much time on my hands that a car as far gone as these would make any sense at all. It is a crazy market and I can't imagine it will last much longer.

It's going to sell, figure it out: At current 140 to one Euro, they get a 40% discount on the car after the exchange. they are buying it for 5 or 6 grand. The ZF is worth more than that.In Europe that ZF will sell ofr big $$$. Then the car is free! lol

The ZF is the ticket PLT. The door handle analogy is a good one, I like it!! The car is free after that. I figure it like this: The Euro is 140 to 1:00, after exchange someone is buying that car for a 40% discount. It will sell, like it or not, but after monetary exchange, some European will have 5 grand in the car. It will part out for a lot more, doors, electrics, hood, fenders, deck, roof, you get the picture. Shark
