In late March, the Operation Iraqi Freedom portion of the War on Terror reached the milestone of four thousand dead American soldiers. With appropriate solemnity, the Nation’s media all reported on this event.

But quite recently, another notable milestone occurred in the War on Terror, but not a word of media attention was devoted to its passing.

While our Nation’s collective attention is now focused on the Iraq War, Operation Enduring Freedom, another War on Terror campaign, continues to be waged in Afghanistan. Like our efforts in Iraq, the ultimate success of our efforts in Afghanistan will be contingent on how one describes the goals, and then views the results, of our efforts.

But in late May, the campaign in Afghanistan did inarguably reach a milestone of its own; the death of its five hundredth American soldier.

The number of dead in Afghanistan is, thankfully, far less than those in Iraq. But it does sadden me that because media reporting essentially overlooks the deaths of our soldiers in Afghanistan, no doubt many Americans forget we still have soldiers making the Ultimate Sacrifice in the ‘other’ part of our War on Terror.

I am just glad Kerry did not win the Presidency. His grades in college were worse than Double Duh Bush -- you see they did go to the same Ivy League school. So just because you speak well in front of a group of people does not make one ... intelligent. All it says to me is that one would be a GREAT salesman, or a wonderful lawyer.
