I unbolted the lower ball joint from the lower a-arm and the sway bar.
I could then move the lower a-arm down to make space to remove the coil/shock.
I left the hub, rotor and brakes connected to the top ball joint and a-arm.
My ball joints are a tight fit in the a-arm; so you may find you have to shout it a lot
, especially when you want to get it back in. One of mine was a complete b*st*rd to get back into the a-arm, it can be difficult to get the bolt holes to line up.
You will have to support the front hub on something substantial - but small enough so you still have enough space. I used a small jack.
Not exactly easy but a lot less work than removing the hub and caliper and you won't disturb the camber. I've removed and replaced a shock in 30 minutes this way (the third time I did this).
BUT - Be careful if you do it this, the hub, rotor and caliper together are heavy enough to really hurt if they land on finger/arm/head etc. Also the hub will try to rotate on the upper ball joint and fall off whatever you have it supported on.
Best of luck.
