In searching the Official DeTomaso Registry I have found many cars with side fillers and side scoops. I plan on using both. Mine had a side scoop before but was further back then most I see in the registry:

I was kind of hoping to find some cars with the vent behind the fuel filler. I don't kneed to do it like some one did before or as in a specific style but I would like it to look good. I am just not sure if the fuel filler ahead of the vent would look good.

The one I had was quite a bit different then any I had seen:

...I have a Single Holley Electric Pump (low pressure 5 psi). I use a 4-way Valve located in the engine bay, on the bulkhead, down near, where the original mechanical pump would be on the engine (now blocked off). BUT! The shaft for the Valve Handle comes through the bulkhead and the bulkhead cover, to place the Handle down low and to the right of My drivers seat. I wanted to be able to switch tanks 'On The Fly'! The Valve is 4-ways... 3 are for Tanks, Only 2 are used, the Third one being Plugged and the Forth is a 'Dead-End'. So I can shut the fuel off when parked; making it a great 'Theft Deterant'!! So both Tanks Have their own filters with the hoses going to the Valve and fron the Valve the Selected fuel Tank delivers to the Pump. Simple and Efficient!...
Well I am not sure what or if I will use the right scoop. I am going to use the left scoop for an oil cooler. It will however be supplemented with a fan so I don't think I quite need the elephant ears. I do want them to look alike though. As I make parts for the right, I duplicate them for the left. At least if these don't work out they will be removable and I can try something else.

There is really a lot more work to be done to make this look good. Hard to explain, I will just have to post photos as I go.

The natural flow of the air thru that area is up from the bottom of the car out the deck lid opening. You might take advantage of that flow by having the elephant ears open to the rear so the heat is sucked out?

Just my 2 cents worth.

Just a little side note. Tom Tjaarda felt that the window and black strakes were important to the look and striking presence of the car - the look of a Panther at full speed. Any way to take that into consideration in your design?

Agreed. Other then a slightly different look to the scoops I don't want to change the look of the car. If I don't like the scoops I can always change them or try again later even after the car is done.
I got a little more work done on the vents. I welded some round stock around the edge of the scoop. I sanded down the welds. If aluminum fit the paint color they could be sanded at polished at this point. I put some etch primer on it so I can see the shape better:

Not sure what I think of them yet. I may need to take a good hard look at it when I get done with fabrication and begin the general body work and prep.

Making this wasn't hard but now comes the hard part; making a left one that looks like the right one!
