Fuel Tank Insulators

...I put my tank back-in a few months ago. By the 'imprints' left, by over 30 years of sitting and rubbing; you can see where the needed padding went and/or should go. Any 'shiny' spots in the steel, both tank and bodywork, 'show' what caused that Mysterious Sqeak, everytime you drove diaganally in and out of your driveway. These areas should receive a healthy dab of grease(as any rubber or tar will just squeeze out and become inaffective). The Bottom 'pad' supports(Chassis/Channel) for the Fuel tank, 'Had' a thick slab of 'Hard' Tar, put there from the factory. I did not have any tar so I used 1/2" thick Rubber 'Clay'; it's the Rubber Rope made by the '3M Company', originally intended for windshield installation. I had most of it leftover from a previous vehicle windshield install, and have found that this stuff works very well for many other applications...

They go on the strap that surrounds the gas tank and holds it in place. Yes, there is suppose to be a pad underneith the tank.

I went to the local parts store and bought an inexpensive rubber floor mat (the kind with raised 1/4 inch grooves for mud and snow) and cut it to fit underneath the tank so that any moisture/debris would not collect in that area. I used another piece of it in the front trunk,glued down that the bettery sits on
