Yes, I know about keeping the value and all that, but I am curious if anyone has ever done it, attempted it or thought about it.

If you've got a few years worth of PI's, do some digging around for a Pantera in Australia that used a 6-speed Quaife sequential gearbox. If my ZF ever (god forbid) absolutely self-destructed, I might think about going down that road. The article was fairly complete, and I think that the swap was done pretty easily.

Obviously, this would be something better suited for a Pantera that was purchased without the ZF....

ANd now that I think about it, a guy in the UK named Phil bought a Pantera sans-ZF and is planning to put an Audi gearbox in it. I think the car just arrived to him a few weeks back, so it obviously hasn't gotten very far and we don't know how successful it will be yet...
Thanks Michael. Got your e-mail and phone number, will give you a call. Been busy, in the middle of painting my car. Should be done in about a week. I'll post some pictures of it when it's done.

The gearbox situation is something I'm very interested in looking into and would consider making a change if the change could be right.

I personally don't like the ZF, especially the cost for parts, repairs or the fact there is only one place to go for anything needed.

But I'm sure when it really comes right down to it, it would be the same way with any other gearbox as well.

James,
We do have a transaxle that will fit that application. The Q-tech has been a good match for many mid and rear engine cars. The Q-Tech is currently going through a redesign of the product and it should be ready for a spring release. The current price of the unit is about $18,000.00, but that may change with the redesign. Please let us know if there are any other questions I can answer for you.

I would use the 930 tranny for your 914 project. I was told the 915 is good up to 350ish HP. The 930 tranny would work good cause of the looooooooooong gearing for the 350 and it's good for about 700 HP. I have 1980 930 that I'm doing a EFI upgrade here this month, fun stuff!!!
