Ok, here is my dilemma........
My car had Mindtrains old glasspack style exhaust on it. When owned by the previous owner, one of them cracked. He was told by someone that the exhaust on the car was a Hall Big-Bore system. He found 1 used big-bore muffler and had someone weld that in place of the cracked muff. The exhaust system (both sides) was very poorly done, and the hangers are broken and the pipes are bent in places that shouldn't be bent. I was originally going to have an exhaust shop re-do the exhaust pipes from the headers to the mufflers and keep the ones that are on there, but when I talked to them and told them they were actually two different "brands" of mufflers, they stated that it was bad to have this, and they would recommend removing them and installed a new pair of muffs. They said they look alike on the outside, but who knows what the inside looks like. I have known these guys for years and they have never done me wrong.
I LOVE the sound of the glasspacks. It is very agressive at idle, and screams while accelerating. I want an exhaust that has this level of sound, or even more. The shop recommended either Borla or Flowmaster (they said they would go with Borla if it was them). I am not sure what I should do.
Is using the different mufflers bad? I wonder if the design is exactly the same? The only difference in outward appearance is the Mindtrain has polished ends and the Halls are black. I spoke with Hall on 2 occasions, and they tell me that they have never put polished tips on any of their systems. They are all black.
Any ideas?
