I have 1985 gt5 and 3 times now when driving at night the lights turn off and the buckets close I pull over shut off light switch wait a 5 min. turn on the switch and go on my way

Look for a loose or burned connection on the headlight switch or a bad headlight switch. I don't have a wiring diagram for the '85, but on the earlier cars, the headlights and the headlight doors receive their power from the headlight switch. When the problem occurs, is the headlight switch warm or hot to the touch?

Headlight switch new with in the last couple years, if the problem would be on going I could trace it but thanks for the input still need help.

When the headlights turned off, were the dash lights still on? If so, then the light switch is getting power. Look at the connections on the back of the light switch. It could still be a bad switch. The headlights and the bucket relay both get their power from the headlight switch (on a separate switch terminal from the parking lights).
If the dash lights go off also, then either the switch is losing power or the switch has a problem.
