What additional items will have to be removed in order to remove the gas tank heat sheild? Will the deck lid have to be completly removed or just the gas spring joint and tilted up?

I'd also like to know how much work is involved because I'd like to remove my heat shield and polish it.
Of course everyone probably knows already that it would be really easy to polish the heat shield. Start with 1000 grit sandpaper, shine it up, then go to 1500 grit sandpaper and do a smoother polish on it, then do a final polish with Mothers Aluminum and Mag polish.
Then of course, reinstall it. I wonder how hard it is to take out and reinstall also.

I have the engine out of the car, so revamping the heat shield was part of the job. I cleaned the shield with an emmery wheel and then put a swerl pattern with a wire pnumatic wire wheel, coated with a high temperature clear paint and riveted back into place. It looks great.
Thanks all, this is the first time I have asked the BB before I looked at the actual project. It looks straight forward, even seems if the heat sheild could be removed from the bottom without removing anythng, assuming you can get the car high enough.
