My lever action for the 3 actions for demist/
defrost hot cold etc, was awful, the reason being that the outer cables, are old bent twisted and so dated in their construction.
I changed the 3 outer cables for modern bicycle cables made by Shimano, the diameter of the outer cables is slightly smaller, but the clamps still work properly.
The main difference is that the cables have an internal nylon tube, whereas the old ones are just a wire wound cable, allowing too much movement within the cable, the piano wire just isn't controlled, but in the new cable there is only room for movement forward and backward.
The down side is, that changing them is no fun whatever, but the action of the levers when you have emerged bleeding swearing and bruised from being upside down in the footwell makes it all worthwhile. Cost about $15.
