This week the big lead story in the news is the death of Heath Ledger. I had no idea who he was, but based on all of the media frenzy I guess he was someone important.
Recently here in Atlanta 2 young police officers, were ambushed and gunned down by some local thugs. The two officers (in uniform) were working in an apartment complex as security to earn additional income. Both officers were also military veterans who left behind young children.
The local media covered the shootings for several days. The story also made the national news for a day or two.
This country is more concerned with the sad death of celebrities, than the death of two heroes. I realize that the deaths of these celebrities are big stories. Stories that generate more attention, more readers/viewers and more $$$ from advertising.
The real issue is our screwed up idea of celebrity worship. It is nothing new, but truly sad to watch.
