As many of you know. The Pantera Owners Club of America along with the Ferrari club of the time, started hosting Track events at Willow Springs some 25 years ago. Over the years, the make-up of the cars attending the events has changed. I am told that after all these years, I am the sole survivor of Pantera owners that attend this event.

This is a sad day! Where are all the local Pantera owners?

I got the message below, from the event organizers, that the event is at the point where it is going to be a thing of the past. This started out as a PANTERA event but ZERO Pantera’s show up. When I go, and I try to hit both events each year, I am the only Pantera there.

The organizers do this event for US. They don’t make any money hosting the events. All they want is to break EVEN. Unfortunately, over the last few years, people have been dropping off because of the economy and other reasons.

I have been told from others that have been to West Coast Racing's Events(Jim and Cherie Saxton), that they have the best run, safest events out there. Jim and Cherie are like family to the racing participants. This is the best track event available in Southern California in my opinion.

If they don’t get more participants the track events, after 25 years, will be no more!!! They will be throwing in the towel... We cannot let this happen. PLEASE, if you have a car that is track worthy, (it doesn't have to be a Pantera) and you want to have a fantastic time on the track with great friends, please sign up and join us on March 2nd! We need your support or this event will be gone forever.

Below is the email from West Coast Racing that came out today. Please sign up or future West Coast Racing track events will be a thing of the past (after 25 years)…

HELP - Our next Open Track Event is Here - We are gearing up for a great weekend March 2 and 3, 2013

We have a BIG problem.....There are not enough cars registered to break even. We need an additional 30 cars to break even. This will probably be our last track event!!! After 25 years we are throwing in the towel. The economy has finally beaten us. We thank all of you who have been so loyal and supportive. Any questions please call me at 626 285-2024. I would love to hear from you.

I have the Grand Opening of our first automated parking structure this week, and have been incredibly preoccupied. I would love to try and make it and will look into my upcoming schedule this weekend when this opening is behind us. I may be able to have my partner bring his Audi S5 as well, although we are both going to Spring Mountain with SoCal Audi a couple of weeks later. I will be back in touch by Monday.

THANK YOU - I would love to meet you there!
While we're at it, the Grand Opening of our automated parking structure is tomorrow and any local forum members who would like to attend are welcome to join us. Ribbon cutting is at 9am followed by tours through the system and refreshments through about 4pm. I will be there from 6am-1pm as I, unfortunately, have to leave to attend a funeral. If you stop by, please introduce yourself to me, just ask for Ted

Just saw this...I will send it out to some friends that might bring out a car....do the participants have to be POCA members? Any limitations? I know an instructor at PCOA that might like to come out...and a few others.

Hi Tom,

You do not need to be a POCA member. If your car is in good working order and you have a helmet and fire extinguisher, you are pretty much good to go.

There is a tech inspection required that you could do ahead of time or at the track. See all details and requirements at:

But hurry as time is running out!

Thanks, Scott

Are they any no-helmet events out there?

Dave,

Do you have the early seats in you car or the later Pan style seat that are thicker?

Scott

I actually have Porsche 968 seats. Had to gut them down to the bare frame and bolt them directly to the floor. Comfortable as a Lazyboy recliner, but have 1" headroom. I'm also 6'1". I'd need a "Gurney bubble" for my Shoie helmet. Not going to happen.
Scott, unfortunately my Pantera is apart, engine out in pieces, rear suspension off. 6 months from now I'd do the event. Unfortunately the only other car I could bring that would be fun is up for sale with three buyers interested. All I can do is let others know about the event. This sad, didn't realize so few Pantera's owners were showing up over the years.
I am going to try and make it, I won't know until Thursday afternoon if I have another commitment. I have taken my Pantera to Audi track events about a half dozen times where I drive my Pantera some of the time and my friend's Audi S5-6spd some of the time. Talk about a contrast, it's just cheating driving the Audi, it's so easy to drive quickly. However, I am 6'2" and with a helmut I am forced to tilt my head at a 45 degree angle while driving to not be smashed into the headliner. Not exactly comfortable and some of the pictures are hilarious. I have not driven my Cat in months, I will take it out tomorrow and see how roadworthy it is, and I hope to be able to make it. We have had a very busy week with the Grand Opening of our first Automated Parking Structure and between all of the press requests for filming, putting cars in the garage and then taking them out, walking people in and out of the building and the system, my spare time has been severely crimped. Below are a couple of links to some news clips one of which happens to show both my XKR and my Pantera (and I had nothing to do with it, they just liked the visual). Hopefully I'll see you guys this weekend.

I just bought my stock '73 at the end of January and do want to track it, but it unfortunately needs some work before I can. I would like to support the event some other way if I can. I cannot even come out because I am supporting a $200M software install that goes live tomorrow night at midnight - putting in 15 hour+ days.
Thanks to everyone that helped to get the attendance up for this great event. We got the needed entrants and the promoters will continue to host future events.

This started as a PANTERA event. Lets support them in the future with more than just my Pantera. For those that couldn't make this event, the next one is in November. Please put it on your radar and show everyone that Pantera owners are not just show queens!

Thanks again! We made it!!!
