Help with Decoding and Locating 1983 Pantera | The De Tomaso Forums

An associate at work turns out to have owned a 1983 Pantera at some point in his life. I generally understand the VIN coding scheme for the 71-74's. I own #2539. His VIN is strange as it is a full 14 digits. Can anybody tell me anything about:
9921B1THLCTD03145
Clearly it is not #3145 as in the other system.

Those numbers do not make sense. There were not (to my knowledge) any cars numbered as high as 99XX, and clearly a 1983 could not be as low as 3145. I wonder if that was an assigned VIN, but how they came up with a number like that is hard to imagine.

If your associate had a photo of the actual dash or trunk VIN plate, it might help, but I doubt he does.

I hope things are going well Gavin. We missed you in Pocono. Your car would likely have provided some fierce competition!

The 50 or Panteras brought in by Kirk Evans (Amerisport) had full DOT VIN numbers, I believe.

Could this be one of them?

This is one example of an Amerisport VIN: 1A9PN8742KD111043. It's for car number 9494.

Not the same.
