Can someone describe procedures for installation of the front hood safety release? I was at a show the other month and someone mentioned I didnt have the release, and he mentioned that if the main release fails, the only way to get in to release the hood is to pry & bend the hood. It seems it would be an easy project to install the release, but where to drill for the cable? Do vendors have a kit, or will just a simple cable do? I have also seen other cars without it...kind of scary.

Ford supplied a kit....
It contained a wire and a washer. Make your own.

All you do, is drill a hole in the footbox
right below where the current wire passes over. Wrap the new wire around the pull lever, right where the current one is attached. Feed the new wire thru the hole. Under the dash, and above the pedals, add a washer as a pull handle, so you can pull the wire easily. Simple eh ?

What is not simple, prying open the hood, or removing the screws that hold the grill on, then reaching up to unbolt the hinges,
then lifting the hood to gain entry.
What is worse, early cars have studs on the grill, so you can not remove it from the out side.
