I am amazed at how you guys work on your cars all the time. I have just got done working on mine for a couple of hours and I am exausted. You guys who put in six to eight hours working on your car, I salute you. I am going to rest for awhile then go out and see if my repairs worked like planned. Wish me luck.
You guys are amazing.

Well turns out I will need a new part afterall. BUt it was worth trying anyway. I feel refreshed after my test drive and feeling better even though I know I will have to shell out ten bucks for a new radiator cap, but what the hey, I will do that next weekend. I can recycle my old oil at the same time so no biggie.
Have a great Pantera weekend mi amigoes.
I just got back from the dragway. The race car has sat for the winter months. My driver said it was idleing high. We changed the oil and fuel, pumped up the slicks, and took it to the track Turns out a rubber cap on the intake was deterioated. This let too much air in causing a lean condition. You see, It is always somthing simple. If was was way complex, we could never fix it... always think simple. That's how we do it. WAAAAAAWAAAA!!!
The two toughest jobs so far were replacing all the coolant hoses and cleaning and re-undercoating the underside of the car. Replacing the headliner was right up there in the competition for the messiest job. All the other work has been a pleasure. It is pretty nice when everything is rebuilt and all you need to do is preventive maintenance and fluid changes.

I knew a gentleman long ago who worked on his own motorcycle. This is back in the day when off road motorcycle gas tanks were made of steel, not plastic like they've been for the last 30 years. When the work didn't go as planned and he became frustrated he would take a single jack to his fuel tank! No crap, man he would lay into his fuel tank with that single jack. After a few new dents he would regain his composure and continue working. Needless to say, his fuel tank was very lumpy!

LOL..........

Upon the first sign of trouble I like to start drinking. The longer it takes to resolve a problem, the better I like it! BRING IT ON!

DeTom, don't feel bad buddy. In November I put my car away in the back of my shop, jacked it up off my nice expensive Pirelli rubber, removed the battery and covered it. My list of to-do's is getting longer and longer and soon spring will be here and I'll tell myself what I did last year: Don't start anything now, just enjoy the car while you can. Those projects can wait until next winter! Some of my "projects" have been on the list for years now! Big Grin
Oh thanks guys. I was just saying how stretching to get to places on the car makes me a lot more sore than it used to.
Actualy this is clearly all Jeffs fault. He had said that you have to put the right radiator cap in the right place. Well I have been having steam come out of my engine compartment lately so I looked to see what the deal was. I thought maybe Jeff was right and I had done it wrong. So I looked and the radiator hose going into the surge tank didn't have a hose clamp on it at all. I had forgotten to put it on when the new enine was put in but the seal had been so tight it hadn't shown up until just the last month or so. So I put a hose clamp on, and if I had stopped right there I would have been just fine, but no, I had to check and sure enough I had put the wrong cap on back when I got the new puke tank. ( my car didn't have one when I got it and I remember now I switched caps because the new one was prettier so I put it where it was most visable) So I went to switch them and the old one didn't want to come off the puke tank. So being a gorrilla I pried and banged on it until it came off and switched them around. Well now the swirl tank cap is shapped more like a bannana than a radiator cap and sure as hell it leaked like a gusher from out of the cap. DOH!! Fix one problem and cause another!! Jef should have to pay for the new radiator cap.
No Jeff just kidding, it was kinda gunking looking ten years ago and it is long overdue. Anyway, I am just going to get a new cap and go from there. Thanks for listening. Smiler
