Well, this is going back to 1975, but I drove #6339 from Red Deer to Calgary in 40 minutes early one morning. That's 80 miles in 40 minutes... average speed 120mph.

But it was raining in Red Deer, and the wipers lifted off the glass at about 85-90mph, so I was limited to that speed for the first third of the trip. I made up the balance on the latter part of the trip.

For one ten-minute stretch I pasted the accelerator to the floor, and for that 10 minutes the speedometer bore out Road&Track's testimony that the car would top out at 143mph.

Back then I drove that stretch often in other vehicles, and it always seemed quite straight. It was interesting to have to carefully apex some of those bends, and feel side loads on that highway. The telephone poles went by like a picket fence.

Oh, and my passenger slept through most of it. Smiler Smooth driving pays off...

(Historical note: Canada changed from miles to kilometers on September 1st, 1976.)
I am looking at the photo of Mark going 135 MPH.

Funny thing is, I was in the passenger seat. But he wouldn't let me take the shot. He insisted on driving with one hand on the wheel and the other holding the camera.

And while all this was going on his shoulder was holding his cell to his ear while he sweet talked some government client.

That's why he's my friend. Because he's nuts.
100-120 on many an occasion. And 135 for a few moments/miles once just to see how fast it would climb, but as soon as it reached 136 I decided to back out of the throttle and brought her back down to a crawl at 85. Never saw how far north of 135 it would go. Someday, at Silver State or a track event.
My business partner ran a 147mph GPS verified in the White Pantera. That was about top end at about 6200rpm. The speedo was reading about 170mph and that was on the 210 fwy between Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana before it was opened up all the way to Los Angeles. I hope his wife doesn't read this board.
Holy mackerel! 150 with no roof? I remember the first time I tried to go fast in my car with the windows down, I thought the headliner was going to come off!

I have accidentally found myself doing 140mph, and climbing, on I70 between Baltimore and Frederick MD. The road was clear of cars. After about 30 seconds of my visors flopping back and forth and obstructing my view, I opted to coast back to the legal speed limit...

Assuming you can pull 6200 RPMs in 5th gear and you have the standard -2 ZF and the usual 335/35ZR17s you will be moving along at 164 MPH. 6200 RPM in 5th shouldn’t be a problem for the slightly modified 351C most of us run. Most all of the road tests on the stock 71 cars were able to top out at 160 and about 6000 RPM. But if you could pull 7000 RPM you would be moving along at 185 MPH. 7500 will get you about 200 MPH.

I'm sure you will let me get away with this claim without any proof.

On old, underinflated tires, running four-year-old gas and spewing steam out of a burst hose I got my Pantera up to... 65 mph.

I was trying to make it the last two blocks to the mechanic after the hose burst. Luckily I was already headed there for a tune up and fluid change.

Someday I will get the cobwebs out of all the systems, get it registered and post a meaningful number to this thread.

I believe you Dave...I just think it could do better with 800HP down the 1/4 mile time and speed wise.

I'd still like to see the 800HP dyno sheet though. Would be interesting to see what your A/F and Torq readings are.
