NPC but real gearhead stuff:

Kurt Bilinsksi started with a carbon shell of a Mini from a friends aborted project and built a reliable, street legal, 0 to 60 in 3.9 sec car from scratch.

He has documented this adventure, warts and all, in a most extraordinary book. If you are the least bit interested in the what it takes technically and emotionally to pull off such a feat, read his book. It is the unvarnished truth.

I met Kurt thru his website and have loaned him my corner scales on two occasions. He is one of my heroes.

His build diary website is http://www.kimini.com and the links to order the book are at http://www.kimini.com/book_info/ . This book is far and away the best I have ever read on what it takes to actually build something. Straight stuff, no BS.

If your friend has CAD drawings of GT40 parts, he will be very popular on the GT40's forum, which I assume he knows about. If he doesn't: www.gt40s.com/forum/

Is your friend Jim Dunham?

Oh, and that Bilinsksi guy is amazing. People like that (and I've met a few of them) are on a different planet when it comes to engineering prowess. I am always in awe.
The September issue of Car and Driver has an article on kit cars and the one GTM from Factory Five Racing really caught my attention.

It's a real mid engined sports car like a Pantera, but the body panels are all fiberglass. The drivetrain is an engine from a Corvette and transaxle from a Porsche GT3. It has those exotic supercar looks.

I know it's not a Pantera, but it comes real close.
