I got a question for the numbers buff.

Here's the numbers:

6117 to 6128 Panteras were manufactured during the Ford era.

US NHTSA records claim 5166 of those cars entered the US. This left 951 Panteras for Canada, Europe and the rest of the world, or about 15.5% of production.

GTS Panteras were introduced in the spring of 1972, the last quarter of the 1972 production year. 1976 Panteras were produced that year, dividing that number by four gives us a number of 494 Panteras produced during the last quarter.

grand total..........3725

15.5% of 3725 is 577.

During the time in which the GTS was produced by Ford, 577 Panteras were manufactured for Europe, Canada and the rest of the world. That is a very "ball park" number. So the remaining question DeTom is what percentage of those 577 cars were sold as L models, and what percentage were GTS models? If 25% were GTS, the figure would be 144. If 50% were GTS the figure would be 288.

Thanks George. I knew I could count on you. So it is somewhere between 100 and three hundred cars. That means I should probably keep mine pretty much the way it is only slightly better.

I believe the number for US spec GTSs was 98. And they s/n be confused with the real GTSs produced for Europe. The US spec ones had cosmetic changes only.

Thanks Jeff. I got a europe one. So there may be more of those, but maybe less of them here in America. I know of about ten or so that are here. Which isn't too bad. But it helps me plan what it is I will do with the car. Since I don't have the money to just do it right now, I am planning what I want to do, then figuring out how much it will cost, and then I will actualy be able to schedule it. Sort of like a project.

I should maybe explain better. I have fantasies in my mind about what all I want to do with the car. Some of them get pretty wild with turboes and actualy changing air flow and wicked racing crap.
But I think I have a somewhat rare car and I shouldn't cut it up and weld on a bunch of crap that wasn't supposed to be there. I mean I have always liked the wide bodys and I think a wide body on a Pantera, especialy clones, is way cool. I think theclones are probably better than the originals cause there are things about the original wide bodys that were problematic.
But anyway, I think I should try and keep my car original looking as much as possible. Try ame make it look for the most part like what it was. Like for instance, it came with a holley 4 barrel. I always thought it was aftermarket until I did some research. It has the carb that came on the car. How cool is tHat?? Now I know it will never be a number matching show winner, in fact I don't even want a car like that. I don't like car shows anymore cause they are too much work and worry.
Here is what I want to do. Someday after I have saved up enough money, I want to take the car completely apart. I want to take off all the paint and get it down to bare metal, just like the big boys do. I want to weld up every seam that is just tack welded, get rid of all the lead, maybe add some hidden re-enforcement and smooth out the underside somewhat, and then put it all back together and re-paint it the samecolor it was from the factory. And I like the lettering on the side, I know some don't but I like it, so it stays. :P
And I am going to like, hide the improvements. Like the engine will look on the outside stone GTS stock, but inside it will have a hydraulic roller cam and titanium valves and a dry sump oil system, only it will allbe hidden away. And like gauges will have the original faces even if the internals are all new. Stuff like that. Now I know all this costs nmore, but I got another twenty years or so to get it all done. I think I got that long anyway, but none of us know for sure how long we got.
