Thanks Jeff, I was particularly interested to see if anyone has used the marine insulation. Seems like it does a great job on the boats in keeping the noise and heat levels down even more than the norm of Dynamat etc...
Man, now THAT was informative! Great post and links. To me, the "B-Quiet" looked great and I got a reply instantly from them, very helpful.
I plan to do my firewall insulation (interior) and under carpet insulation as well. Thanks again for the post.
Any others who have done insulation to quiet the car down a bit, chime in. (Yes, I know half the fun is hearing it... but that's why we roll down windows!)
Thanks George. A friend of mine has a nice Donzi speed boat. Happened to be looking at his engine cover and saw some real nice foiled insulation. It seemed to quiet the twin engines quite a bit. The engines not the exhaust!
I used sound deadener between the firewall and the polished stainless steel firewall I installed. I also added it to the inside of the firewall behind the vinyl firewall cover. Obviously the one place that I didn't use deadener was on the engine side of the center "hump" because of the fear that it would let go and get wrapped up in the belts/pulleys. I forget the brand that I used, it had aluminum foil faced and reinforced w/ nylon webbing. I think it made a big difference in sound levels inside the car.
My favorite is CoolCar or Lizardskin. Spraying them on seals all the nooks and crannies where the sound can escape into the passenger compartment. It serves as both a "barrier" and a "deadener". I used it on the inside of the roof as well.
Also don't forget what Richard Barkley learned when he did his car. See his website for details.
His analysis was that a lot of sound comes up through the rear quarters into the roof where it has a pipeline right into the passenger compartment so he insulated up there as well. Search the poca realbig email list or maybe here to for info on what he did. Or maybe it's in the PDF of the article that you can download from the website, http://home.earthlink.net/~rlbpantera/index.html
Thanks again Jeff and everyones replies. Seems the spray on insulation has some great qualities that you cannot achieve with the foiled back material. I thought this was going to be a simple choice
Danno ... I have come to the same conclusion spray on maybe the way to go.... hey so your finishing that car ???? Good to hear. Good Luck its worth more complete.
