WTF I didn't realize he was banned, that is quite ridiculous IMO.

As much as I disagree with Larry's vocal political views, he is a great human being and as long as NPC threads remain in the 'Pub' and tehre is soem moderation there should be no issue IMO. Larry organizes the PCNC Speed Trials for the Fun Rally virtually single handed and I consider him a great advocate of the Pantera marque.

Sad day and I can see why more PI members are migrating to the POCA forum; you get banned here for NPC threads or mentioning the elusive PI magazine.

I used to enjoy reading Larry's posts and I just read here that he was banned. That is really a shame, because he was an active contributor, and a colorful writer with interesting and candid opinions. Larry had supplied me with valuable insights and opinions from one of my threads, and I appreciated his thoughts.

I read that you can get banned here for mentioning the PI magazine. Why is that?

Larry's been such a long term contributor here that maybe the moderator could offer a brief explanation why he got banned? Maybe a brief suspension rather than a lifetime ban can be a compromise? I can tell you that with an ever dwindling supply of Pantera owners and even less active participants, this thinning forum would do well to exercise caution before banning long term active members. This website has only a handful of active partcipants, and once a forum slides below a certain threshold it can reach a critical mass, where the entire forum collapses. I'd like to see this forum last for many years, and for political reasons of the other members psyche it might be fair for the moderator to offer a brief explanation why a long term member so active in the Pantera community got banned, and maybe then everyone will be at ease and understand. A good friend of mine once told me there is room enough for good people to disagree and still be good people. -He was right. As near as I can tell Larry is at the opposite end of the politcal spectrum than me but he seems like a good person. Personally, I don't come here for political debate. I simply don't read those posts very often. I do think that George has a right to run the forum the way he wants and I can see why he would not want to constantly police subject matter that was not allowed and would ban use of those that were repeat offenders. -Play by the rules or the Cowboy rides in! Perhaps Larry is only in exile and may be allowed to return at some point?

My Response:

Long time members here should know I'm not at liberty to discuss the particulars of another persons membership. Those who have written Larry was banned are misinformed, that is very very wrong. Those who know me personally should know better than to accuse me of doing something petty or uncalled for. If I've taken action against a member, I had good reason for doing so, and it was a thoughtful decision not an impulsive one. I'm the same person I've always been, I bend over backwards to be considerate, I have lived every one of my many years by the code of the west. I have never woken up one morning and said to myself "I don't like this person, I'm going to ban them". I run the forums professionally and leave my personal opinions of people, as well as my ego, out of my decisions.

A few people have been banned over the history of these forums, but Larry is not one of them. The main thing at this forum is we expect everyone to respect others, to be adult, to play well with others. We want members to feel safe to participate without public confrontation or disparagement. We expect problems between members to be resolved privately, not publicly. When somebody errs from this, I ask them to refrain. Those who have been banned were banned because after being asked to be considerate they have continued being inconsiderate or reacted to the request in some other unacceptable way. Of course, people who have been banned seldom admit the banning had anything to do with their behavior. Most often they tell everyone that they are victims and make Dave or I out to be some terrible, petty person, such people seem to revel in tarnishing the reputation of another person. Of course, as adults you all realize that somebody who acts like a victim has issues they need to work out, right? There is a connection between the behavior that gets a person banned and that person's inability to admit to themselves their behavior was responsible for it.

Accusations like that go with the territory of administering/moderating a forum. But, just because I'm the administrator doesn't mean people can be disrespectful of me. If somebody casts disparaging remarks in my direction I will protect myself just as I would protect anyone of you.

To think that somebody was banned because they mentioned the magazine is absurd. Get over the magazine issue! Really. Re-read my comments in paragraph two.

Finally, November's statistics for the DeTomaso Internet Community were the best we've ever had. So lets stop all this talk about the forums dwindling. Some of November's stats showed a remarkable 20% improvement over previous bench marks. If someone feels the forum is dwindling, perhaps its because there is less drama these days. I also happen to believe the stats have improved because there is less drama.

I'm locking this thread up because there is nothing to discuss. Larry was instructed what to do if he wants his member privileges restored. When he's ready to come back I'll be ready to have a friendly conversation.
