I almost went off the deep end collecting 100s of side view jpg of Panteras. Then finally went with these - Hall's Ultra, polished with knock offs - Michelin 17s fit perfect, offset's great (with some spacers) and they fit the car (although you sometimes have to steer with the throttle so the fronts don't rub).

This is as much of a side view as I can find.

Thanks for the compliment, JK. I went out with our group again a couple of weeks ago, and have some new photos that I have been planning to post in the new photo gallery (as soon as I can figure out how to work it, that is). In the meantime, here's a teaser. And, yes, that's an Enzo in front of my car. Not only that, if you look closely you can just see the roof of a (real) GT-40 behind the concrete barrier.

Peter, I met a guy at our company 'Last Supper' (after the takeover in October) that said he had just sold a real GT40. Nice guy, he was pretty interested in the Pantera's but didn't say he new you? How many 'real' 40's can there be in Calgary?
I'm sure this will be the same guy if he lives in Calgary. As you say, how many real GT-40s can there be in the city?

I don't know him personally, but I was told by someone in the ZR group that he acquired the car in connection with a business he had in the 1970s building replicas. I was also told (and I can't vouch for the veracity of any of this, of course) that he acquired the rights from Ford for the name "GT-40" at that time. The story goes that when Ford decided to build the GT, they tried to buy the rights back, but he declined their offer. In consequence, the new car had to be called the "Ford GT" instead.

All I know for sure is that he drove that GT-40 like it was stolen, and had no trouble keeping up with the modern exotics on the track that day. The noise it made was ear piercing.

Sounds like the same guy, he had the car from the '70's and intimated he got it dirt cheap at the time. Thirty years ago the 'GT40' name was never apparently trademarked by Ford. The trademark problem actually began in 1985, when Safir Engineering Ltd. of Surrey, England, bought the rights to the GT40 name to set its vehicles apart from other replicas that were being made of the race car.

Safir Engineering produced copies of the car in the 1980s and 1990s, continuing the sequence of serial numbers from the original cars.

The company closed in 1999 and transferred the trademark and rights to produce and sell replacement parts for the cars to Safir GT40 Spares, a parts company owned by Bob Wood and partners Brady Pack and John Sadler, supplying spares for origianl GT40's. It's rumored they wanted a $40M tag to license the GT40 name back to Ford for the new Ford GT and no deal was struck. Now Safir licnese the name to Superformance for $3K a car so that the SPF GT40 can claim to be a true 'continuation car' with sequential chassis #'s.

Why am I so up on all this? Well this week I purchased an older 90's KVA GT40 MK1 replica.....eagerly awaited in Reno from CT Big Grin

Peter, please do send me photo's!

The Mangusta Spyder prototype is in Alberta? You mean the one that was shown at Pebble Beach? Holy crap! Who'd of thought we'd ever see a piece of DeTomaso history like that up here in Canada...

Who owns it?

PS: The photos are on their way.

Peter, Thanks!

The owner has over 50 VERY rare and expensive cars and would not give me his name when he called me back (I called his broker). I was interested in buying one of his "regular" Mangustas. He sent me pics and I decided against buying the car because it hadn't been well maintained and the price seemed high (but not now...). This is how I know he has the proto:
