I found there is some 'slop' where the linkage, (farthest back) attaches to the rod coming out of the shifter box.
(Linkage rotates more than the shaft rotates.)

There is, what appears to be a roll pin (or ?) holding the collar on this shaft. The pin is tight (real tight) but the linkage rotates a bit before rotating the shaft. (It rotates in response to the linkage moving to the left (towards reverse) and right (4-5).

With so much slop the shifter moves as far as it can left, but I can not engage 1st or reverse.

How do I eliminate this slop, and is it common ???
