Concorso Italiano update.
Arrived at Monterey about 8:30. Stopped at a gas station before heading to Mom's. Pulled up behind a Maserati Myrak (?)getting fuel. From the styling I'd say early to mid 70's (but I wouldn't really know). I got goose bumps. I asked the guy if he's going to be at the show tomorrow. What a dumb question. He affirms. I turn around and see two '32 low boys driving down to the freeway on ramp. My eye tracks over to the off ramp and here comes a Ferrari 328. It pulls into the gas station right next to me. My son and I have died and gone to heaven.
We spent the next hour driving around Monterey, Pacific Grove, The Wharf, and saw Maserati's, Ferrari's, Lambo's. Dozens......unbelieveable. On the way back to the house we stumble across a Russo and Steele auction. It was just winding down but we were able to get a quick run through. Three 70's era Countachs, 2 GT 350 Shelbys, 1 GT 500, a blown '68 Nova, a McClaren, a '70 Boss 302, several Corvettes (one a T-top 427), 2 Hemi Cudas (one convertable), several old race cars that are unknown to me but looked awesome and the piece de resistance......a GRP IV Pantera. I don't know if the P Car was real but I got pics of all of them which I will post when I get back Sunday night. Those cars were the only ones we could get to.....the other half waits for us tomorrow night. Its rumored that they have Ed "Big Daddy" Roth's Astro Sled Bubbletop up for auction.
Anyway the organizers of the Concorso Italiano are predicting 1000 cars and 10,000 spectators. This is going to be interesting.
