Shasta is a large, beautiful & valuable animal. She's not lost, somebody knows where she's at.

Contact all the shelters, animal control, animal rescue, veterinarians, etc. Somebody who has found your dog & is trying to find you may post a note on a City sponsored bulletin board, animal shelter bulletin board, animal rescue bulletin board, even Craig's list or a pet supply center bulletin board. I've heard people report finding animals to some of the bigger radio stations too.

But you must also keep your eye out on Craigs list, the papers, The Recycler, etc for somebody trying to sell Shasta.

I lost a large valuable bird once, very friendly. The people who found her planned on keeping her (they were neighbors who lived behind my home). I know this because they had purchased a very expensive cage for my bird. But I posted a $100 finder fee/reward for information. When a neighbor kid heard about the reward he ratted on them & told me where the bird was in order to collect the money. $100 bucks was a lot of money to a kid back then.

Good luck Will, best wishes, let us know WHEN you find her. Think positive. It took me about 10 days to get that bird back.

Post some "Lost Dog" signs at the local grocery stores. We found an adorable and friendly cat a few years ago that apparently got lost while its owners were on vacation and a neighbor kid was taking care of it. We posted signs with a picture at the local grocery store and the owner was reunited with her cat within a week and a half.

Good luck!
The signs at local stores and heavy traffic areas is a great idea. I found a lost pug once and put up signs around the area indicating it was found. Eventually the owner found it and came, said how appreciative he was of finding his dog etc., and how his gf was going kill him. But being from so. california myself, I wouldn't expect that from your neighbors Wink Definitely going to have to be more pro-active. Good Luck!
This advice will not help Will's dog, but it may help yours.

Keep a proper collar on your pets, even if they are only 'back yard' pets. Things happen.

And on that collar, a name tag. Stainless steel is my choice, engraved it lasts for the life of the pet. Include at least one phone #, ideally home AND cell.

You can order these online, and my vet always has a tear-off order form display on her counter.

The cheapest, best thing you can do to get your pet safely home - but you have to do it BEFORE you have the problem.

My wife and I are on Golden Retriever #5 right now. They become a part of the family. Things aren't right when they go missing.

I hope you find her soon, Will.

Larry
Guys,

First off, thanks for the kind words and support, I appreciate it...

But so far no luck, we have heard from people in Carslbad that she had been spotted on the Carlsbad Camp Site bach (5:30-6:00am yesterday morning) and in a few other beach locations further south spotted by morning runners.

Here are the details so far:

This is email is to all of you that are family, friends, friends of friends and even the kindness of strangers -

I just want to let you all know how grateful I am for your amazing support as we continue to look for Shasta.

Shasta has not been turned into any shelters or humane societies to date within San Diego County. We continue a broad scale search for our girl and am hopeful that you all will continue to keep up the search via emails, calls, flyers, postings, etc. too.

I have gotten so many emails and phone calls from all sorts of people who are looking for Shasta, as well as some more advice on what type of information to send out. Please keep them coming.

I know that everyone has given so much time already and I am so grateful for any more time you have to spare in the search for Shasta.
Please see the below updated email with additional information about Shasta.

SHASTA:
She is a 1 year old, Female, Bernese Mountain Dog
She is what is known as Tri-Color (Black Body, Brown Legs, White chest and facial area)
She is approximately 75-80 pounds
She does not have a microchip
She does not have her tags or collar on her (she broke this off when she ran)
She is current on all vaccinations including rabies, but has not been officially licensed by the County of San Diego
She does have a national rabies registration and an AKC registration
She is on Heartwom, Flea Advantage, and several dietary supplements
She is NOT spayed (and it is possbile she is coming into heat)
She is extremely friendly and well socialized with humans and animals, but may be frightened right now
She went missing on 3-25-09 at approximately 8:00pm
She was last seen in Encinitas, CA at the corner of Leucadia Avenue and the 101 freeway, she was heading south bound and west on the the 101.
While she is not a certified therapy/service dog yet, it is important to note that she is a therapy dog for me with my medical disability and it may help to let people know

I have also attached an updated version of our flyer for Shasta.

Thank you to everyone again!

That is great news!
Glad everyone is safe.
I have my chipped and tagged to the hilt.
My only complaint when I got him was that I
couldn't inject a GPS transmitter.
Its amazing how much you worry about them.

We looked into the GPS collars, but with a battery life of 4 days & then recharging it, it's just too much of a hassle, I figured there would be a decent GPS collar that had at least a 2month life before recharging.
