I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 1974 L THRU P.I. AND IN PREFORMING SOME UPGRADES AND GENERAL CLEAN UP I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE HOT WIRE TO THE ELETRIC CHOCK COIL WAS HOOKED TO HT BATT + SIDE OF THE COIL, I HAVE RAN A DIRECT FEED TO HE CHOCKE FROM THE FUSE PANE, HOWEVER I HAVE FOUND THAT I ONLY HAVE 3.9 VOLTS AT THE COIL. THE CURRENT IGNITION IS A FORD DURA SPARK II, IS THIS NORMAL? THANKS FOR ANY ANSWERS.

Hooking the choke hot lead to the coil will in fact drop the voltage and act as a very effective rev-limiter, as the ignition will run out of voltage around 4700 rpm. This is one of the most common screw-ups Pantera owners make. Find another switched-voltage tap. Many guys use the (unused) hot tap on the back of the stock alternator; of course, that convenient place is unfused....
