Went to see the red 1985 GT5 that is available at Autosport Designs in Huntington, NY earlier this afternoon. Nice original car, fairly priced. Unfortunately, when I tried it on for size I was disappointed. Far cry from my ultra comfortable, ultra roomy DeLorean. I was expecting the tight fit and offset steering etc... At 6'4" 300 (not obese) lbs what are my options on getting in there?? I think I remember Kirk making some insert that made more room for the inhabitants. What am I supposed to be looking for?? This isn't the car for me but, it will make someone very happy. I have invited Antoine the VP of Autosport to join the forum. If anyone has interest in this low mile 11,000km beauty look him up.

In this case he drove an '85 GT5 and the later cars have a factory floor which is different and equivalent to a dropped pan in an early car. The later cars also have more bolster in the seat (assuming it is stock) so one can change out the seats or remove the tracks and bolt them to the floow to gain a couple inches. I have Lotus Elise seats in my '81 GT5 and plenty of headroom. Also it depends on whether a person's height is in their torso or legs, for more legroom a spacer can be fabricated (or purchased) that moves the pedal box forward by up to 1.5 inches.

It's been on Ebay a few times with a no reserve starting bid of $56K, which IMO is an extremely good price for a factory GT5 with such low miles, assuming it is in good condition. The wide Campi wheels alone are fetching $6K a set these days.

D&D, you really won't find abetter car to start from for your height than a later series body with the factory lower floors. I say go for it and find some aftermarket seats that will make it work for you.

Harry,

As it happens, I'm in need of an extra 5" of leg length and you are clearly in need of shorter legs. I understand this sort of leg-length altering surgery is not uncommon in Japan and perhaps we could work something out so you can eliminate your primary impediment for getting into a Pantera.
