I was planning to change a Holley 650DP with a vacuum secondary carb but I have been advised against it by my mechanic and also by some muscle car guys. They all say that a VS carb is not going to be as responsive as a MS carb even at part throttle and I will feel the difference right away and not going to like it. The 650DP on my car is very responsive but its too rich and I am tired of smelling raw fuel every time I park the car in garage after a drive especially on a hot day. Is VS carb not as responsive as MS carb in normal driving? Also, does a MS carb makes more power than a VS carb with all other things being equal? Any input is highly appreciated.

Also, one of the noticeable differences between MS and VS is the feel of the gas pedal.  There is resistance from the MS half way through as the secondaries and accelerator pump engage.  On the VS the pedal is linear all the way through even though the secondaries are fully engaged.

My friend says he likes MS at the race track and VS on the street.  He said the MS produces predictable performance (hundredths of a second are important) while the VS feel of the gas pedal is friendlier on the street.
