Okay guys, I just gotta vent.
Over the past few months, I've had LOTS of projects on this car. Much as I love doing them, getting stuff ordered, or having them done, I must admit, it has sapped me. For every known complication, another unknown issue would surface.
On Friday, I picked the car up after a recent few jobs got toward completion...
1. Clutch line replaced. Bled system.
2. AC line replaced, new 134A in. (My condenser fan upgrade finally got to kick in!)
3. New front shocks - "clunk" gone.
4. Wrapped stainless coolant lines in rubber to isoltate vibration.
5. Built heat insulator (double walled aluminum) to shield AC lines at compressor.
6. Changed oil, correct filter (!) quart of Lucas racing.
7. New radiator pressure cap. THE ORIGINAL one was still on there. Cleaned and saved the 74 model.
This, after new plugs, plug wires, coil, fuel pump, rebuilt carb, lines, filters, new tires, et cetera.
I get in, fire it up, and oh boy. Car is just a champ. Hauls tail, shifts smooth, NO CLUNKING, runs to 190 degrees and hangs, handles about twice as good as it did when 'stock'. (Finally got to push Pat Mical's suspension today... broke the rear out ONE time on several attempts.)
The AC even blows cold... 41 degrees at the vent. Wow.
I love this old beast. It is just a ball to drive, to tell people about, and to cruise in. Can't wait to get a few more miles under my belt and take it on a trip.
Tonight, while I watch the Alabama game, I'm cleaning up my Becker vertical, may send it off to be rebuilt if it doesn't work perfectly, and am thrilled to be doing 'this level' of detail. What a great time, enjoying this car.
