Journey Update.
Got car running with the help of Ron and Chuck. Got a tankful of driving time in, noticed ticking, and subsequently found many rockers were dying, so I had them rebuilt.
Had a slight hiccup on the new rocker install, quickly remedied that and the engine runs great.
Then i found a fuel leak, and the throttle started sticking, so I fixed the leak and installed a new throttle cable.
I've been driving the car around a bit, and everything is functioning well. I probably have a couple hundred miles on it with no issues whatsoever. The tach even decided to start working!
Since it runs so fat at idle and down low, I'm changing the oil very frequently, because I think some fuel is getting into the oil.
I just changed the oil in both the gearbox and the engine, and I'm happy to report absolutely NOTHING stuck to my magnetic fill and drain plugs. Oil looked clean.
Snow White is behaving nicely (knock on wood) and I'm really enjoying driving the car.
Panteras are truly special cars!

When I was driving for work, I used an oil sampling company to analysis my oil/fluids. I haven't used them in years, but the routine oil results were useful. in one case it showed fuel contanimation after a thermostat failed open. If the testing was sensitive enough to detect that short period of running rich, It should tell you if your are and approximate how long you should go between changes
I just checked their website and it does not look friendly to the individual user now. (I can't even visit the US website due to firewall)

if not them, there should be other companies.
I think I still have a few sample kits left. I KNOW I will be using this type of service if I ever do get an engine running
Go to the Blackstone Labs website and fill out the form for a free test kit. They send it to you for free, then you pay $25 for the analysis.

I've used Blackstone labs for many years. $25 for a pretty thorough analysis. If you use the same oil consistently its a good way to spot trends or if something is going before it goes.

I'm going to drive the car and change the oil once or twice so I know it's fully flushed before doing an oil analysis.
With the PO having rocker failures, and my finding more disentegrating, I've replaced all the rockers and things seem to be running great.
I think though after the next oil change I'll send a sample in.
My car runs fat down low, so I'm changing my oil REALLY often to keep it from getting diluted by fuel.
