Do you guys remember those old bumper stickes that people used to put on their junker cars that said "My other car is a Corvette" or Lambo or Ferrari. I was wondering if I could market one that says Pantera????
No, just kidding, what I was wondering is what most of us drive when we don't drive our Panteras?? I know there are some brave souls here who do use their car everyday. But I can't imagine me ever doing that unless I became a baggilionaire overnight. Then if I ever needed potting soil I would just send Jeeves the butler down to haul it back in his car. Smiler
My everday car is a 2002 SVT Focus. I like it, it is nice and reliable and all that. What do you guys drive???

I put 30,000 to 35,000 miles per year on a vehicle. I wear them out by the time they're paid off. So, 2 things make financial sense.

1. A car with good fuel economy saves me alot of money

2. Cars with over 100,000 miles on them have little resale value, regardless of make & model, so it only makes sense for me to keep the purchase price on the low end

My current car is a 2001 Ford Taurus. Little 200 bhp mill is peppy & fun, tows my motorcycle trailer real well & gets good fuel economy. The car is comfy & has good luggage capacity. But it just isn't "me". So the next one will NOT be a Taurus, Camry, Accord type car.

In southern California, yu are what you drive LOL Roll Eyes

Natrually my second car is also Italian. A red convertible v8 powered. Caddilac Allante' I keep an 87 Buick Gn under the house, next in line it is a classic too.....Ragged out 84 Jeep wagoneer with 188g but it blows cold 134 ac, and hauls my stuff. i JUST CAN'T JUSTIFY BUYING A CAR THAT WILL GO DOWN IN VALUE. My friends all said I was crazy to spend what I did on the Pantera....That I could have had a dodge Magmun. It would be a year old now and worth about 5 grand less than when new. I beive I have helped increase the value of my Pantera in the year I have owned it!
I drive a Ford Ranger 2005 which is a company truck that I drive home. But my personal vehicle is a 98' Toyota Tacoma 4x4. Great for our drive to the beach, going camping our hauling stuff for our weekend projects. It has a lift kit, bigger tires and campershell with Yakima racks for putting kayaks on top.
For work it's a 2004 Dodge Dakota RT (360 V8), for errands and winter it's a'96 Astro Van AWD, for Sundays (we take mom to breakfast) it's a semi restored '73 Jag XJ6 (two tone gray with wire wheels), and for my sanity it's a trade off between the '72 Pantera and my '41 Harley FL Knucklehead.

Ford Powerstroke F-350. The only reason why I have it is I trade a tractor back and forth with my brother which weighs about 14K lbs on a trailer. I would get a small second truck for driving to work but I don't for two reasons. One is I have 4 sports cars, 2 tractors, my truck my wifes car and we don't need another.

Second is I get 17mpg city in my Ford F-350.

COZ!! That is great news. I think it will make you happier with your Pantera too. Now you won't feel pressured to get it done when you work on it. Plus what other thirty year old car would you expect to drive every day with no problem?? Now your Pantera rides will even be more special. I am glad you broke down, you will be happy you did. Smiler

Heck just hook a hitch to your Pantera, it will pull that tractor easy. Big Grin
DeTom....
I have to admit I'm glad I did. It is kinda nice not having to drive the Pantera in major traffic with the shifting, this heat because now I have A/C and the thunderstorms that were getting right now. Last night coming home from work, if I would have been in the Pantera, I would have never gotten home. The streets were flooded everywhere, some 6" to 8" deep.
Your right, now I'm not pressured to get it done.
Thanks brother.

Funny, I used to have a Dodge Dakota. I tried hooking up the tractor/trailer to it. I had to rev it to 5K just to get it going. When I hit the breaks, the front tires just skidded and it didn't really slow the truck that much. It was a good laugh, but I certainly wasn't going anywhere with it!

DeTom,

I remember seeing some pictures of peoples cars from this board in the snow.

I drove my supercharged Mustang Cobra in the snow once...... 430lb ft of torque + 245/45 tire in the rear = NO FREAKIN' TRACTION Big Grin

Actually if you had skinny tires a Pantera would probably do pretty well as far as traction goes. If you could keep from getting high centered that is. Smiler
It makes me feel better that there are not any replies so far saying how there everyday driver is a Rolls Royce and then some long list of super cars in their stable. Good old down to earth folk like me. That is what I like about this place. No fancy aiers, no noses stuck in the air. Ecept of course to breath in the hefty aroma of our recently driven P-cars!1 Big Grin

That fellow is me, and I just planted the car in the driveway between blizzards to get the pix for the article. She didn't see any real driving time in the snow. I've already had plenty of excitment in the snow using my big block vette as a daily driver in Wyoming and Colorado.
Snow...yeah...I remember snow...uuhhhhhh...
I bought my '72 in Phoenix in February 2000. I flew one-way from Denver and drove it back. It was in the low 90s in Phoenix. By the time I got to Santa Fe, the roads were clear, but the countryside was snowpacked. It was freezing. I had discovered that the heat flap was stuck in the "we don't need no heat in Phoenix" position. No heat, no defrost. I pulled into a WalMart and bought thermal underwear, light gloves, and heavy socks. Got a motel for the night. Next morning I was up before dawn...a light snow was falling. Fired up the Pantera, backed it out, started forward and the throttle cable stuck. Not enough to be dangerous in normal conditions, but I decided to cruise around the motel a few laps to loosten it up before heading out into the fresh snow and ice. It seemed that every time I blipped it to free it up, it stuck at a little higher RPM. I was sliding all over the parking lot. I can just imagine the impression I made in my fancy foreign car with the other motel patrons at 5AM.
Finally got it out on the highway and things were going great...for a while. Within 50 miles, the highway was completely snowpacked with glare ice in sheets...and because the temp was rising...fog. Lots and lots of fog. I ended up driving for about 90 miles in these conditions. The hills were freaky going up or down. I just drifted around the curves. Luckily it was early and no idiot in his right mind was out there! I had most of the road to myself. All this was made even more intense by the fact that I had to breathe shallowly and away from the windshield. Remember...no heat...no defroster. Quite a ride.
As I crossed over into Colorado, the fog lifted, the road cleared and the sun came out. I gave the heater control another shove and...shebang!...the flap popped open!
I stopped for gas at a little mountain station and the clerk asked me "what kind of car is that?". "Pantera". As I left I heard his buddy inform him that it was really just"some kind of Fiero kit car". Didn't even bother to correct him. I had sunshine, heat, dry pavement, a bunch of sweeping mountain curves ahead of me...and a new Pantera!
Never driven in snow since.

Mooso.
