That's the Michangeli/Pietromarchi Pantera circa early 1979

This is a race car familiar to most Pantera enthusiasts from pictures of it in its original Group 5 livery such as in the picture you posted.

The car was never driven on the street or sold to the public, it was built from a uni-body acquired from the factory in 1977, it has no VIN/Chassis number, but has been referred to as chassis 001. The car was built to Group 5 specification by a race car constructor with ties to the DeTomaso factory, Sala/Marverti (William Sala and Giovanni Marverti) for the Maurizio Michangeli and Carlo Pietromarchi race team.

It was raced in Group 5 three seasons; 1979 - 1981. Some changes were made in late 1979, the design of the front spoiler changed, becoming more blunt but less attractive. The decal across the top of the windshield changed from reading Sala-Marverti to William Sala Racing.

The Group 5 class was cancelled after the 1981 season, so in late 1981 the car was modified to Group C specification by Auto Elite of Modena, in preparation for the 1982 season. From that time onward the car, having drastically altered livery, displayed an Auto Elite decal across the windshield.

Three things that never changed from 1979 to at least 1983 were the sponsorship "Guida Monaci", the team name "Michangeli/Pietromarchi " and the yellow/brown color scheme.

I have a few pictures of the car posted near the bottom of this Face Book photo albums, including the car as it appears today.
