You can change a lot of things in the cabin.

What I did is
1) install a quick release steering wheel hub

2) lower the floor pans 2"

3) install power seat tracks(forward-rearward/rake/height/lumbar

4) installed Halls leather covered "early" seats

5) modified the steering column for adjustable tilt

6) spaced out the foot pedals forward 1-1/2 inches

7) gone to a flat engine cover and eliminated the bubble

8) installed a delrin shift knob on the original handle which in effect shortens the length of the handle and the throw

9) put a label on the passenger side that says "get in, sit down, hold on, shut up".

All help to quite a degree.

Now having said all of that one thing that you can not do is move the forward part of the door pillar forward.

Getting into the car is the easier part of the equation because you can slip right in but getting out for me sometimes includes having to help my left leg bend enough to get my foot out the door.

If there is no one around you can climb head first out.

The car fits you very much like a Jag XKE does with the deep foot wells. A Cobra is actually easier than both.

With the lowered floor pans the seats in the stock tracks are TOO LOW. It's hard to see over the dash. The power seats platforms help immensely in that you can put it right where you want them and you don't need to wiggle around anymore to get comfortable after an hour or so. You just readjust the power seats.

They don't vibrate but, you know, that's not a bad idea? Hum? Big Grin
Yeah when I got my 2 5S, both owners were well over 6', and had bolted the seats directly to the floor along with lowered floor pans, ha ha no seat adjustment after that! When I bought the cars I had to drive with two pillows under butt and two pillows behind my back. So there are ways to do it, but then sure ain't pure "stock" anymore once you mess with it. Since then I put in seat rails and additional spacer rails too, since I am just 5'5". Now I can at least see over the dash.
Great options all viable.

Hi Lou,
I just happened to see your post while I was in Provamo.com. If the color is original, orange is somewhat rare. Some pics and info listed.

The youtube video doesn't show much of the car, you do get to hear it. Sounds healthy. Enjoy!

History

This car was offered for sale on 4/24/2010 with the following details:

Presented for auction is a 1974 DeTomaso Pantera, all numbers matching restored by Hall Pantera to a concour condition. The car remains in it original color of orange and has been repainted with PPG Poly Urethane to exacting color standards. With very low original mileage registering 21,211, the interior remains original to the car and is in show quality condition. Part of the restoration process included a freshening of the engine internals with a slightly higher lift and duration cam. The engine was honed and new rings and a centerforce clutch was installed. The ZF gear was inspected and overhauled as necessary. All the Aluminum components are polished and bright stainless steel engine compartment walls have been added. The radiator and tubes are upgraded and this car will not overheat as others do without this upgrade. The engine bay is painted in gloss black and spectactular in presentation. With new rims (Campy 17” and 18”) and tires. Modifications to this Pantera include a euro front and rear bumper system. This Pantera is a show stopper and it looks the part and runs as well as it looks.

Please see my Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeHxF2rQZrg

This car has been cared for and is well beyond a driver with exception to a local show. In considering this Pantera, it is restored to a concour condition and will win best in show when shown. This is an “L” Pantera with Power Windows, Power Brakes, Power Steering and very cold AC. The sound can only be matched by another Pantera reconditioned in similar fashion.

The windshield wiper wipers are off for show, since this car will never be driven in the rain. The engine tub that creates the rear luggage area is with the car and in perfect condition. Original spare tire and parts with original manuals come with the Pantera along with a custom fit cover.

This Pantera is one of the few out there that will eventually command $ 6 figures and can not be truly appreciated without visual inspection.

This car was offered for sale on 12/30/2009 with the following details and (mostly the same photos as before):

I am selling my 1974 DeTomaso Ford Pantera. This car is original with 21,211 miles on the odometer. The original Ford 351 Cleveland engine is numbers matching. It has been recently freshened with bearings, rings and a mild cam. The engine compartment is amazing with gloss and bright polished finishes throughout. Please see the "Youtube" posting below to see and hear the car in action. The exterior has been slightly modified with euro front and rear chrome bumpers. The color orange is original to the car and quite rare. It has been repainted with PPG single stage Urethane and is concour quality in all respects. The interior is original and in near perfect condition. The rims and tires are perfect. I have the original tub in perfect condition for the engine compartment and spare tire with accessories. There are no blemishes of any kind on this car. This car is a multible car show winner and attracts alot of attention. You will not find another DeTomaso Pantera in this kind of condition unless you have one restored to this condition. it is better than new and many many respects.

The provenance with this car is also rare. Sold as a Californa car from new and remained in California, the car does not have any of the normal rust issues that comes with Panteras from the east coast. This car is in incredible condition and sound and drives like new. This Pantera will always be the center of attention wherever you go.

Please contact Jack with questions at 909 2XXXXX. The Pantera is being relisted due to a deadbeat buyer who failed to pay for the car. It was sold for the buy-it-now price 3 months ago. I worked with the buyer to long in an effort to let him have the car, but in the end, he did not come through. So please, be serious as this is a serious car.

Hello Tim:
Thanks for the lead buddy, rest assured that any car that I consider a serious purchase will be inspected first. I will get in touch with this guy and see what happens. I am still considering the Bruce Canepa car but the price is too steep $145K is a bit off the charts.
http://canepa.com/photo-galler...-tomaso-pantera5195/.
That been said I do like this car a lot an Bruce Canepa comes well recommended so there is a certain degree of confidence in his cars.
Keep you posted
Sincerely
Lou

Welcome to the forum, there is a ton of good information here and a wonderful group of people.
I am sure you will find the right car for you, if it happens to be in Florida PM me and I will look at it for you before you spend the cash to fly down and check it out yourself.

Just got of the phone with the seller of a 1974 Pantera L (Yellow) in Ohio #6554 Date of manufacture 11-73 . THis car is in the ProvaMo registry as a 1973 L, however, it is titled as a 1974??? and being offered for sale as a 1974 unmolested car with 9200 miles . The asking price is $129,000 . Any thoughts, I am concerned about these discrepancies, also the engine does not match the car according to the registry and it was sold to a man in CT about a year ago and the now seller bought it back after a year why??? Hummm not kosher in my book. The seller is Mershons World of cars, Ohio
Tks

It has the 74 US only windshield wipers parked on the passenger side.

One of the letters in the serial number indicate the model year. I forget which one it is.

Just the wipers alone would TEND to make me think that it is a 74 model.

Are you sure that you don't have it backwards, i.e., it is a '74 titled as a '73?

The story about the the '74 California cars being retitled by Ford as '73's because of the change in the emissions law then seems to fit.

The Marti report would indicate the original selling dealer. If it shows a California dealer new then I would expect the scenario I just described.

Looks nice. The mirrors are not original though.
Hum? I can't recall seeing any cars for sale with the 180's on them?

Wondering what that says about them? Maybe the car is too good to let go with them installed?

I can understand you wanting the car already done. I did my own install and was not pressed for time on it.

It isn't a simple installation but it really isn't difficult.

To do an install on someone else's car is a can of worms too.

For one thing it is much easier to do if you pull the rear decklid off. It's tough to work on in there to begin with and with the decklid on you need to walk away from it until the frustration goes away?

You have to sit on top of the ZF to work in there.

Everyone is noticing the asking prices too. Who was the one that said "I didn't pay too much. I just bought it too early?"
I don't expect to find one with a 180 header already installed, but I have done numerous restorations and I have reached that age that I rather have it done or purchase it already done. I did an upgrade to my 123 GT Volvo 1967 a while back and that was a chore and a half. The 180 header seems that way too. Here is a picture of the Volvo
