My wife and I have sold our house recently and are moving farther from our current location than our trusty 50cc scooter will allow. It was decided to get another vehicle. Seeing as I have the shop on the go now we decided this car should be a moving showroom for what we can do at the shop. With this idea in mind Project "Impact" was born. With the current vehicles my business partner and I collectively own we represent the Asian market (2x Honda civic, Nissan Armada), European market (BMW 5 series), and Exotic market (De Tomaso Pantera). What we didn't have was a pure North American muscle car. After digging around we found an ad for a 1967 Mercury Meteor. No I know a lot of you guys are probably saying "There is no such thing as a 67 Mercury Meteor". Well, after the US production run of early 60's meteors ended the Meteor was relaunched as a Canadian model. Based on the Galaxie 500 platform the car looks very similar but has a different grille and trim. In the pictures the car looked quite nice so Chris and I went to check it out.

Now if anyone is unfamiliar with these cars, they are HUGE. The car is a solid 18 ft long. When parked next to the Armada it extends almost a foot longer. The consensus is that it weighs about 3800 lbs. The motor is a fairly nice reworked 289 attached to a RUG-E toploader and ford 9" rear with 4.11's. Now you combine that with the fact he has heated the springs to lower it as well as put wide circle track tires on the rear and you have a really quick car that handles like a bag of s%&t with excessive tire rub every time you turn the wheel sharper that 2 degrees.

The test drive was fairly unimpressive with the exception of the power of the 289 and the twin strips of rubber 60 feet long we left on the road. We did the usual bartering and talked the owner down $1400 plus added a whole Armada full of spare parts. Plans include a twin turbo high revving 302, 6 speed trans and much more. I wont drag on with the story as it will be on our shop blog but here are some pics of the new beast.
