While this is concerning news there are few hobbies with more resourceful members than the automotive hobby.

Remember when computers entered the automotive world? All of us old school grease monkeys thought this would be the end of hot rodding. Remember?

There are far too many commercial and industrial applications utilizing hydrocarbon fuels that total elmination just does not seem possible.

And if there is fuel somewhere then rest assured a hot rodder will figure out how to get his hands on it.

In my opinion it won't happen as its not affordable, its just politicians posturing as per usual.

The UK has some of the most expensive pump gas in Europe, reason 75% of the pump price is duty and taxes, it makes up I am told 18% of government income, billions of pounds.

How therefore are they going to replace that income, certainly none of them are brave enough to increase personal taxes, no votes in that!! They are not going to get it from these useless "green" electric vehicles either.

Not only that 70% of UK goods are transported via lorries and roads. Don't think they have yet designed an electric lorry strong enough to pull anywhere near the weights and loads currently being transported.

THE AA, RAC, Road Haulage Association and Classic Car groups over here are quite powerful and vociferous so they will use their muscle over the coming years.

Its just an ill thought gimmick that these politicians come out with on a regular basis.

Cheers
I reckon fuel will at least double in price and we'll be hit with road charging per mile (although that won't have much of an effect on Classic car owners as we generally drive our cars out of peak times)so they will hit the existing petrol/diesel driver with double charges but i am almost certain that for at least 20 years after this comes into effect petrol will still be available but it will just keep increasing in price but as for you guys in the States once governments find a way to raise more taxes than they already do it won't be that long before the greedy politicians shaft you guys as well.
All i can say is get ready to be SHAFTED, arghhhhh.
Wow that's a glass half full opinion. Smiler I see autonomous people climbing into their autonomous vehicles, heads down, bio-metrically linking themselves up to the vehicle via chip implant for entertainment, communications or whatever, but the act of driving will be the last thing on their mind, provided they still have one.

Classic cars will fade like the horse and carriage. On that note, I think I will go for a drive. Smiler

I believe the loss of integrity an morals in society is going to drive us to self driving cars.

People don't care about laws, rules. You cant take a short trip without frustration in how incompetent and rude people are.

The kids these days would rather play with their phones than drive cars. Learning to drive is a nuisance. Once behind the wheel they all seem to b spending more time in the left lane blocking traffic while reading their Facebook page on their phone.

People see you coming and round the stop sign without stopping to pull out in front only to drive 10mph under the speed limit because they can; and they think it's funny.

Rome is falling and the impact on the car world is ever more growing and obvious.Every time I go out I think to myself, is common man really this stupid?
How often do you see horses on the road being used as daily transport?
Times change, technology replaces outmoded designs.
Ever been in a Tesla 100S that has 760hp on tap & all wheel drive?
Those things blow your socks off. I was too focused on the effects of the G forces on my body & where to place my limbs to actually notice there was no sound from the car itself.
Unfortunately we classic car lovers are in the minority.
Electric does seem to be the way forward.
And electric trucks are not too far away from reality.
Maybe someone can design a retrofit of an electric drive for the Pantera front wheels & harness energy from braking to charge the batteries, all whilst having the enjoyment of the 351 driving the rear.
That may give us some brownie points & tax credits to keep driving a Pantera into the future?

Im not actually against electrics. They are better suited for one purpose than others. In fact i built an electric bugy to use between shop, home and different jobs. The government has ruined gas with alcohol and I never have to wory about bad gas, fowled plugs, oil leaks, alcohol rubber issues and a 100 different issues.

I am all for capitalist progression of technology. Once the government gets involved they can turn any movement into a mess. Just look at all the bankrupt solar companies we have with defunct billionaire executives.

Our technology evoles as needed. Oil used to seap from the ground. If we eventually burn it all up we will have done our job of ridding this earth of dirty oil.

When goverment interviens we seldome get anything but destruction of industry with a lot of shiesters getting rich.
