Anyone else have this problem and figure out what was wrong?

I'll use the diagnosis strategy of Jack DeRyke on 02-12-2002 under the Topic "headlights" in this Forum, if I gotta do it the long way, but thought I'd ask if someone had experience that a certain connection typically gets dirty, or a Part No. from NAPA, etc., can be used to repair the switch.

Any alternatives to replacing the entire turn signal, hi/lo beam switch? My car does not have the Euro 'flash to pass' feature.

Low beams work fine in hi or low position with turn signal arm (stalk fwd or back)? Thanks.

There is some evidence that the stock headlight switch and turn-signal hi/low-beam selector are completely incapable of handling the required current for stone-stock headlights (let alone halogen or other bulbs). Tthe addition of a relay to take the current is the only way to 'fix' this problem more than temporarily. No one I know has yet gone to the trouble of totally rewiring the car to adapt a different turn signal switch; its well beyond my personal capability. Short story: an acquaintence/engineerr at Lockheed Space Systems got disgusted with his crummy stock wiring, LUcas connectors etc, so he pulled the entire loom out of his '74 and began changing everything to MIL-spec connectors, switches etc. Twelve years later, the car was still immobile.... what you suggest is a massive job. Be careful!
