Why am I having sure a difficult time finding the correct oil pan gasket for my 351 Cleveland?

I removed the oil pan and was about to install the Aviaid pan but the new gasket didn't match. I got a Fel Pro 1811 and the rubber seal is a 1/4 too long compared to the old one. The old one is about 9 1/4 inches while the new one is 9 1/2 inches long. I was told the FEL OS30227C was specifically designed for the Pantera but it too is too long.

Am I missing something here? There's no way either of the new gaskets can make a complete seal. The rest of the gasket matches up perfectly.

Anyone got any ideas?

I had the same problem with the Felpro 1811.
I bought 2 sets and the 2 seals in each pack are different sizes though they have the same part# on the seals themselves.
The picture is not precise but when 2 hold the 2 seals against the ruler, they are different lengths and did not fit correctly in the caps.
Both D0AE-6723-B2. The shorter one has a Ford oval with a 84 after it. The longer one, has a Ford oval which is not clear with a 79.
I think if I remember, I just reused my old seals..

The "shorter" seal from the previous picture against the other seal in unused 1811 package..
The seals in the unopened package are both SC1 D0AE-6723-B2 NPC 11 FORD
The shrink packing might be distorting the seals but it is not tight against the seal..
What markings do you on the inside of your seals?
Are they both the same length?

You're right. The old one does have a number on it. I didn't even think to look at it. Not that I can read it. I have no idea how you read that. But it is a Ford OEM part number with a logo on it.

Mine says SCI DOAE-6723-B2 then the logo with 65 after that. I'll have to check to see if Ford still has this part number.

It's strange that more people haven't encountered this problem. Thanks. I knew I wasn't too far off base.
