We can't always be talking bad about Clevelands. I have not been driving my 73 TA because it started smoking. I am looking into valve seals. It is a fresh re-build with larger valves, an upgraded comp cam and heavy dual springs. As I removed the valve cover last night I noticed a small dent in the top. One of the rocker studs broke off and was laying in the top.

The fun begins!

Hey Gary,

I you some interest in Pontiac V8's. I've got a couple of old Pontiac V8
books that may interest you:

1. Pontiac High Performance Engine Design and Blueprint Assembly by
Craig Henderson and Kern Osterstock (of HO Racing).

2. Pontiac Racer's and High Performance Handbook by John Angeles and
Pete McCarthy (Pontiac Super Stock racers).

If you're interested I can make copies for you.

Thanks Dan, I am ok for now. I am going to swap the rocker studs with ARP and see if that doesn't help. I am still not sure if the oil is coming from a seal or the cyl with the broken intake stud. I hope to get into it more this weekend or next if I can round up the parts. I want to do 1 valve at a time so I don't drop it in the cyl.

Stop by some time when you come through.

I'll try. So far, each time by your place has been on a mad dash from Ohio to
Missouri. The last time, I left Ohio at 9:00 PM and had to be at work the next
morning. It's 400+ miles door-to-door and I made it in under 5 hours including
a stop for fuel. BTW, that was on brand new snow tires. It figures the one
year I decide to put snow tires on the Mustang, we wouldn't get any snow. The
tires are interesting. The rubber compound is quite grippy in the cold (my old
summer performance tires would drop off in grip as it got cold) and the ride is
noticeably improved. With only an H rating, the sidewalls aren't as stiff as
the Z, W, Y rating tires I've used in the past. The handling gets a bit squirmy
at the limit. Not bad at usual speeds but blasting through a corner at 120 MPH
does get your attention.
