When I unscrewed and removed the panel inside the front wheel well to change the courtesy side light, the rubber gasket that fits on the panel fell off. There was a lot of grease around it. How was this rubber gasket attached to the panel? Was the grease suppose to be there? Thanks to everyone for your help!

The OEM gasket was a friction press-on fit. I have no idea why there would be any amount of grease in that area.

Larry Thanks. It looks like they were press fitted. They are a little loose now. Can I use some 3M gasket glue to glue them back on ?
Would likely be fine.
I’m wondering about the grease, any ideas on why it is there?

I assume the grease in question was O-ring grease or silicone grease and it was there to make old, crappy gaskets stay in place. Why not just buy new gasket material? I think Wilkinson sells it by the foot but I got mine from McMaster-Carr.
There was a guy on eBay selling the marker light gaskets (4 in a set) for about $55 (IIRC).
I never bought them, but just noted that they were available. Can’t speak to the fit…

Thanks everyone. No idea about why the grease is there. And yeah it was o ring grease. Maybe to seal and hold the gaskets on a little. Maybe due for new ones.
