Pedal springs

Back again. I have the pedal box out of the 72 banana for a clutch pressure reduction kit. Noticed that the clutch pedal return spring is broken. I think I know the answer, but want to get some input. How important is that spring? If it must be replaced I am sure that NOW is the right time to do it. Also, is it a proprietary part, or is it a common spring that can easily be had?
