As I begin the restoration, what parts are available through PMI. I know they have catalogs of all the parts but that doesn't mean all the parts are available. Is their invetory limited to what is on their web site? Do they have things like all the rubber for the doors, gromets for the wire harnes exits, door trim if I mess one up, etc. How extensive is their parts invetory.

When I did the MGB almost everything was available.

Yea but what does that mean. Do they have firwall rubber gromets, window trim both the rubber and the stainless, etc. I am just trying to get a feel for what I will need to take VERY special care of and what I will have to find other sources for.
Well I have too many questions and since this is a PMI site I thought they might chime in and give an overview of whaty theya ctually have available. Like I said when I did the MGB 99% of the parts were available. I don't think you can buy as many Pantera replacement parts but I am not sure what is and is not reproduced.
Okay, since you don't seem to want to just call the vendors, here is what I have learned in the last five years.

Panteras by (Steve) Wilkinson is the major importer for the original parts. Different vendors have created various items on their own.

When you call any vendor, he may or may not have the item you want sitting on his shelves. In the case of OEM parts, Steve WILL have it on HIS shelf (if anyone has it).

What one vendor doesn't have he will get from the vendor that does have it. There must be some sort of buddy discount system, because most prices are the same no matter what vendor you buy it from.

I believe some vendors will have exclusive items sold only by them - Larry Stock (Pantera Parts connection) probably does not provide his new repro Campies to the other vendors. Several other vendors have their own style of repros also.

DO NOT get caught up in an eBay auction for some "RARE, HARD TO FIND" item unless you have made a few phone calls - first one probably to Wilkinson for those OEM items.

Once you start buying - and I suggest you spread out your purchases to get an idea on who responds fastest, has fair s/h costs, handles problems correctly, etc. - you will wind up with a favorite or two.

I personally do most of my purchasing with Dennis Quella or Steve Wilkinson. My wheels came with no problems from Marino Perna (Pantera East) and I've bought from Hall, Larry Stock and Lloyd Butfoy.

Remember too that this list is sponsored by PIM (Not PMI) and throwing some $$ their way now and then "just because" wouldn't be a bad thing.

Larry

Shameless plug - If you want GRP 4 tail lights, you'll probably wind up with me. The vendors have only the lenses, no housings.

Gary, this site belongs to Pantera International Car Club. The bill for this site is paid 100% by PI Motorsports in exchange for that little banner ad at the top of the forums summary page. There is no direct association between the two businesses other than the fact that the former president of the club is the co-owner of PI Motorsports.

Dave is on the road, returning home from Texas. And therefore not available to answer your question.

George
Larry I will call when I am ready to purchase parts. I am simply trying to get a feel of what is available for a full restration.

George, when Dave get's back maybe he can give us a run down on how much is really still available for these cars. PMI shows all parts on line but I didn't think "all" parts are still available.

One thing I would like to see is a 100% restoration rubber package. Everything from window seals, engine mount rubbers, weather stripping to door seals and rubber pass troughs all over the car.
Gary,
I suggest you be very carefull with ALL the parts your removing. Most all the soft trim is avaliable through the vendors (I have yet to locate the door courtesy light rubber). As far as the hard trim on the door be CAREFULL, these are very thin, and bend very easy.
As stated earlier, E-bay is not always the best choice, I've seen items that the vendors still have, sell for twice the price of brand new. Just make sure the part your bidding on isn't still avalable through the vendors.
