Jeff,

A lot of people use consumer photos sites to host photos. I hate those and won't even visit them. And if ANT website requires a login, most won't even touch it.

I use:
www.pair.com

Web space is cheap; real cheap. You can find free or very cheap file transfer programs to transfer files back and forth just like a hard drive. I use a program cuteftp (search for it). A little bit of a set up learning curve but once you do it very very useful.

They come with free email accounts so you can add, delete change emails all by yourself. What is nice about that is I use a separate email for placing orders. This generates a lot of spam. When I get a lot of spam on my ordering account I change it.

It is also real easy to register and host a domain and web pages if you want to go that far.

Just think of it as your hard drive on the internet.
If you have your photos stored in an online photo album somewhere, you can link directly to them from your post without uploading them. Click the 'picture' icon above your text box and you can enter URL's for multiple pictures (see image below).

BUT, PLEASE MAINTAIN THE PICTURE THERE!!! There's nothing worse than searching for a valuable thread I remember from a year or two ago only to find that the pictures are gone and there are little red x's in their place, all because someone changed or renamed their photo album, or changed online album service providers.

Jeff,

You canot build a "photo album" with pictures stored at an image hosting site. They have to be uploaded from your computer.

However, what Garth is showing you is that you can start a new "discussion", or "reply" to an existing discussion and fill your post with a bunch of photos by simply copying and pasting the image's url in the drop down field of the display image tool in the toolbar (shown in Garth's example), or by copying and pasting the image code directly into the text of your post.

The url of this image is inserted into my reply using the "display image" tool of the toolbar:

The display image tool simply installs around the URL to turn it into an image code.

This second image is pasted directly into the text of my reply using the image code provided by my image hosting site:

Here's several more images to show that you can post a bunch of images into one reply, I have no idea if there's a limit.

by the way ...

I use Photobucket. Its a very popular image host.

(1) Photobucket is free

(2) Photobucket allows you to choose if your photos can be viewed by the public or hidden from the public

(3) Photobucket is very reliable (although their software has a glitch or two that irritates)

(4) Photobucket's maximum image size is 800 pixels x 800 pixels, which is more generous than some other image hosts, and is plenty big enough for the internet.

(5) Photobucket's software will automatically reduce the size of your large images to the maximum allowed dimensions when you upload your images. This only works to a certain degree, very large images are kicked out & you have to resize them yourself.

On last request to one and all, when you post pictures please limit the width of the picture to no more than 800 pixels, wether or not you upload them or link them with their url. It makes it easier for everyone when we don't have to scroll past an enormous picture in the middle of a thread. Its also nice to be able to view the whole picture on the monitor screen at once

Love you guys, one and all

George
